NJO Alternate History: Leia is still NR Cheif of State

Post by Darksider »

Assume the vong begin their invasion as seen in the NJO, (IE: They still have Nom Anor do his red knights of life thing, still hit serpindal, still crush chewie) but with one critical difference. Borsk Fel'ya lost the NR election to Leia Organa Solo. The senate firmly supports her, with the exception of a few Bothans loyal to Fel'ya.

How do things play out?
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks

Simple, the Vong lose big time. Leia is more inclined to support the Jedi than not, which means she will commit the military almost immediatly, and with a new threat looming the military would ask for more money to build up the fleet and they's probably get it.

Leia was a far stronger leader than Borsk. The majority of the NR's turmoil in the early days of NJO was Borsk trying to apease his supporters. If Leia has almost full senate support Nom Anor's antics will not cause half the problems. She'd take the Jedi very serriously and deploy more than one Star Destroyer and it's support to check up whats happening. Without a beach and ship womb head the Vong can't force their way into the Outter Rim.

Leia varries wildly depending which EU book you read by which author.

The post BFC Leia would favour 'action this day' after learning the lesson of getting burned by Yevetha.

I mean in the Dark Tide series the only recon on the Vong threat being done WAS by the Jedi. In the first book without Government support or backing (and even negative support with Borsk altering NRDF patrol routes to keep clear of the Vong incursion and a total blackout of new raids / invasions). Leia herself was rallying the local Governments to try and set up refugee organisations to evacuate as much of the outer rim as possible (a flawed effort given the scale and hell, all they did was dump them a 'layer' back and create an even bigger problem.

But on topic, Leia would probably go public much quicker and start aggressive recon with the Jedi and NRI with the NRDF. Then start budgeting resources to start heavily fortifying key outer rim wolds and border worlds in the invasion path, a wall against which to grind the Vong down. With aggressive counter attacks against any beachhead the Vong try to make and no ability to rebuild their rapidly wearing out ships....well....the Vong will become near extinct very rapidly.

Leia from the movies would strap on some armour, grab a gun to her breast and appear in advertisements around the galaxy;

'Mistress Leia wants YOU for the NRDF!'

EU Leia, sadly would either do that, or try and hug the YV ... and no. That really isn't an exageration.
