I'm late to the party, but- indeed. Uninspiring EU crap, and doesn't whole a candle to the ARC-170 in terms of design-cool.

Which reminds me- even though it's got a stupid name, the "K-Wing" is a very cool design which wouldn't look out of place next to the ARC-170 in RotS.
Now that's sheer genius. Which mission is this? For I want to hear it for myself.
I believe it's one of the first missions where you fly the TIE Avenger, though I can't be sure. The quote (since I played the mission recently upon reinstalling TIE Fighter) is:

"How pathetic! They must really wish to die flying those Z-95s!"

I hate the Carrack Cruiser, the Rendili Dreadnought, the Loronar Strike Cruiser, and the Assault Frigate. In that order. You might be sensing a theme.

I took Imperial Overlord's advice and reread the dogfight chapter in "Han Solo at Star's End" which is apparently the first appearance of the Z-95. It's as good as I remembered it.

I think the suck started later. It's first intro was good. It's good mainly because we see Han get into a fighter cockpit and excel. In the films we see him in the Falcon try to take on space superiority fighters. But Star's End shows him do the sensible thing and get into a fighter.

Agreed with you on the K-wing. Having seen a picture of it myself, I think it looks like it could fit in with an ARC-170.

The K-wing was a cool fighter and cool concept that I would have thought would have supplanted the B-wing as a dedicated bomber. Somehow, the usual selective amnesic authors chose to pretend it never existed.

Just a question, but I remember seeing a rough line drawing of the Z-95 in the West End Game adventure module Tatooine Manhunt, IIRC, the first Star Wars RPG adventure module.

Is it possible that the rough sketches originally introduced were concept drawings for the X-Wing? Obviously not 'in universe', but when the films were being planned.

The K-wing is a bomber, while the B-wing isn't. The B-wing is like a strike fighter. K-wings are slow and need escort from speedy space superiority fighters like E-wings.

I'm pretty sure that that is indeed the case.

This is the guy they want to use to win over "young people?" Are they completely daft? I'd rather vote for a pile of shit than a Jesus freak social regressive.

I will second the motion that the New Class ships are just butt ugly, they don't come close to matching the sleekness of the ISD Mk's, or even the Mon Cal cruisers, They are too 'wingy' to seem like a match for the big ISD even though they are supposed to match them in terms of shields and armor
