There's some more about Lucas's involvement in the project in the article. To be honest, we weren't planning on making the "next chapter of the Star Wars saga." That was a surprise awaiting us when we pitched the winning game concept to George Lucas in April of 2005.
Lucas said we could set the story between Episodes III and IV, an area in the Star Wars timeline closely guarded for future projects. He encouraged us to develop the Darth Vader's secret apprentice angle. Looking back at our one-sheet results, we saw that "unleashing the full power of the Force" was a particularly popular bullet point, one that Lucas too latched onto.

Well i'm hoping for once Lucasarts tries to make a game that falls in with established points from the movies. You'd think the guys at Lucasarts would be the first to realize that blasters have power settings and the ARC-170 is not an interceptor. Althought I guess we can attritubute those to Pandemic.
The "secret apprentice" angle just comes off as kind of, uncomftorable. Vader is supposed to be the Emperor's apprentice, so he can take on an apprentice? Ok, so what's stopping his student-to-be from taking on an apprentice? Darth Bane would shoot himself if he saw what had happened to the rule of two by this point.
And here's to hoping they stop treating the Rebel Alliance like a full scale army, and finally treating them like the insurgents/terrorists/guerillas they are.

That's perfectly normal Sith succession. I think there's a source that mentions Sidious doing the same thing with Maul, when Plagueis was alive.Vader is supposed to be the Emperor's apprentice, so he can take on an apprentice?
Vader, without an heir but with ambitions for becoming Emperor, would likely seek out an apprentice in secret. In fact, that's why you can kill stormtroopers in the first place in this game, it's part of your instructions from Vader to keep your existence a secret from the Emperor.

Well if Lucas approves of Vader attempting to overthrow Palpatine with a secret apprentice before Luke's existence becomes know, that's fine by me. It is in keeping with Sith practice. I'd just like to play Vader.

Wouldn't he have even before this, at Palpatine's own previous violations? (Ignoring the Sidious-Tyrannus/Maul timing, and possibly Vergere, there was already Plagueis-Palpatine-Maul.)CaptHawkeye wrote:Darth Bane would shoot himself if he saw what had happened to the rule of two by this point.

Eh, I wasn't entirely certain on the timing going on and everything. I wasn't aware that Sidious had been training Maul since his own training. Still, you'd think as someone who initially broke the rule of 2 personally, he would be more warry of future apprentices breaking it under him. As it is a pontential sign of resistance, and Palpatine didn't look like the kind of Sith Lord who believed in the "stronger apprentice consumes the master" policy.
Unless Grevious was a kind of unofficial apprentice for Dooku, but then again, that was with Sidious' consent.

As I understand, Palpatine wasn't faithful in belief (much less practice) to the Rule of Two anyway and intended to rule 'alone' (plus minions), so wariness long-term about would-be rebellious apprentices might've been irrelevant. Also, as I understand it, Grievous wasn't Force-sensitive and so wouldn't violate the rule in either letter or spirit.

The rule of two reffers to Sith Lords. Vader's Apprentice does not appear to be a Dark Lord of the Sith. "Just" a dark side force user. We've seen that this is fairly common practice - Dooku had an extensive stable of them, at least one of whom (Ventriss) we actually saw Palpatine approve of.
