Force Absorb vs Force Drain

Post by Dark Primus »

From what I have heard only the stronger and more experienced Jedi or Sith has the powers use these Force powers so it seems.
Force Absorb: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Force_Absorb
Force Drain: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Force_Drain

Now here is a interesting scenario.
Say a Sith Lord draws upon the Dark Side powers ready to unlesh it upon his Jedi opponent. And the Jedi prepare himself for it and gets ready.
Just as the stream of Force Draining hits the Jedi he uses the Force Absorb to counter the attack from the Force Drain.
I am trying to come up with a defense against Force Drain and I hope Force Absorb would be a viable counter attack as the Jedi taps in to the power of the Force Drain itself and unleash Force Lightning or preferble a Light Side Force weapon back at the Sith.

The question is this possible?

Force Drain is a Force power and the Jedi should be able to tap in as it hits him before it drains him completely, but I could be wrong.

Anything made by the force can be countered by the force. Or at least Luke thought so in the ROTJ novel, IIRC. Force lightning is described to have three different properties, which seems like they can be weighted by the Sith/Dark Jedi user. Pain, restriction, and some kind of life drain. But Luke was, untrained, able to partially counter the Emperor's FL, which had some kind of life damaging property that affected Luke long after the Battle of Endor. This is all by my memory of course. Someone with the novel at hand may provide you with details.

In the beginning of Truce at Bakura, an MD droid notes that Luke has lingering damage, I think in his bones, and Luke muses along the lines of Force Lightning having some sort of effect on him other than simple lightning. This was the day after the battle, IIRC. I don't remember seeing it mentioned again, though.

I'm not sure how Absorb would counter Drain, though. Drain doesn't have output to speak of; it steals energy from a target. I don't think there'd be anything for Absorb to work with here.

If Force Drain is anything like leeching, you could say that the Force Drain power enters the targetted body and takes energy away from it.
Force absorb is able to absorb any force power directed at the user, so it might be able to (partially) absorb the force drain power before it gets to drain.

This defence is possible during the Jedi Academy games. To the extent that you could fight without using a lightsabre against Sith opponents. Blast Choke, Lightning and then use Force Absorb to regenerate force powers by moving in close:D

The novel says that's the result of the electricity causing calcification.
