DS vs Empire
After the DS2 was completed (and the rebels destroyed) IG-88 siezed control of the DS2 and killed the crew (the Emperor and Vader where away at the time, so they are still alive). ID-Star is now on a rampage. Can the rest of the Empire take out and/or recapture Death-88?

That entire story is one of the greatest crimes against Star Wars the EU has ever committed.

Which one? IG-88 commandeering DSII, or the Eclipse?

The story is stupid as fuck, the Death Star II would almost certainly have the same hard wired security systems that ISD's have, allowing the Emperor to regain control. If not, an ambush with the Death Star prototype should at least drop the shielding.
Once the shield is down, a hundred thousand or so capital ships should be able to clear out the surface turrets and disable the superlaser. Then it's a matter of using the prototype to blast down to the reactor and blow the station. Then it's a simple matter to build another one.

IG-88 had his program in there and probably would never have gotten any sort of control. secuirty programs lock him out and delete him quicker than unwitting parents clear out hard drives without fucking CHECKING THE DOCUMENTS.
Lets assume the DS did go rogue though, without any sort of support it would run out of fuel and would have little or inadequate tech support. Goes phhhbttt.
I've also got a theory that, although the Superlaser was functional, the hyperdrive wasn't an going to hyperdrive with a good chunk of the superstructure unfinished couldn't be good for the station. If thats the case then the IG88-Star wouldn't get anywhere quick enough to do significant damage.

As for the lack of support...IIRC the story of IG-88 getting inside the computer core when it was made also included him seeding the galaxy with droids programmed to rise up at his command.

The rebels did it against an incomplete DS. This one is finished. read the first post.blkmage wrote:The Empire. The Rebels pulled it off, and with a lot less firepower than the Empire has.

The DS1 had a weakenss the DS 2 lacks and the DS1 was far smaller, couldn't target cap ships, couldn't fire more then once a day and have fewer weapons emplacements. Totally different, so quite trying to cover your ass.blkmage wrote:Still, the rebels took down an operational DS with a LOT less firepower/manpower/anything else. Why are we ignoring the millions of men onboard DS2? Imperial ships wisely don't put every single system under the control of the central computer; many things still require manual overrides (look at the physical breaker switch Obi-Wan used to shut off the tractor beam in ANH). Moreover, they use stormtroopers rather than things like computer-controlled wall-mounted guns or forcefields for internal security.
They can just pull the plug when they discover the computer core is not responding to commands, and shut down that whole idiotic KJA storyline right there.

The systems still can't be completely worked by the computer systems, even though the Death Star II is probably mostly automated. He'll need to "call" a droid crew to himself from Mechis III. And program them. It is a question whether with the droids on the Death Star and control of the computer systems he can manage a hyperspace jump. In which case he makes a hyperjump to some mostly empty planet. His droid crew and possibly some support craft arrive from Mechis III. He'd probably go to Telti and other droid production worlds and attempt to sieze control whilest ordering throughout the galaxy his droids to rise up.
I doubt he'll get enough support still though. The Imperial fleet gets too close to be shot at w/ the superlaser and fires away; probably bringing in thousands of Torpedo Spheres to help smash down the shields. Then they blow up the Death Star's surface TLs. Then they hammer away at the superlaser dish and the engines and hyperdrive in the equatorial trench. Unable to move, shoot, or go to hyperspace, the Empire can simply land troops in the "crewed" sections of the Death Star and destroy all the droids and blow up the computer core. The Death Star is towed to a yard and refitted and repaired and modified to that will never happen again. It's first mission after being recrewed and recomissioned?
Destroy Mechis III.

True, but you haven't established that IG-88 is actually capable of this. There's a limit to how unrealistic a scenario can be made.Ender wrote:I took that into account and said that the entire crew was killed in the first post.

There was more than one IG-88 model. One of them could have had gripper claws, and another fingers.Ender wrote:Well, in the IG88 story, KJA claims that IG has fingers, when the movie whows that he just has gripper claws, so since it contradicts canon, can we drop it?

KJA is a dumbass. This story alone was enough to convince me of it. According to KJA, IG-88 wasn't even going to wait until the DS2 was finished; he planned on turning on the Imperial fleet right after the Rebels were all killed. IG-88, a superintelligent droid mastermind and would-be galactic conqueror, was going to start his little war without shields, possibly without a hyperdrive, and with a BIG GAPING HOLE leading right to his weak spot. Riiiiight.
I also got the feeling that KJA was intentionally trying to fuck around with the SW universe. Besides this whole stupid "IG-88 sets out to conquer the galaxy" plot, he embarrassed Palpatine. The evil Sith Lord, the most powerful man in the galaxy, can't even force open a door unless IG-88 lets him? Bullshit!
I have heard though that the anthology books have been declared out of continuity, like the Infinities. Is this true? Hopefully it is, so we can just forget this whole sorry mess of a story.

According to the EGTVV, the DS prototype was never built to have a hyperdrive, so that idea won't work. However, the buttloads of Torpedo Spheres or a rushed Eclipse will work, not to mention DW's point about the men already on the DS2.Sea Skimmer wrote:The story is stupid as fuck, the Death Star II would almost certainly have the same hard wired security systems that ISD's have, allowing the Emperor to regain control. They haven't been totally discarded. But certainly a good deal of them has gone out of the window totally.
