We'd need to find a non-carbon based Force user and show that they have an equivalent.

The Shard are silicon-based and have no equivalent that I'm aware of, being some kind of living crystal and lacking any comparable biology, but the entire species is force-sensitive. That's actually one of the reasons I reject midichlorians as the cause since crystals don't have blood for them to live in.
