Mandator class firepower question

Post by Skywalker_T-65 »

Okay, this is something I have been pondering for a while now. Just how powerful is a Mandator class Dreadnaught compared to an Executor? I need to know this since I am in the early stages of writing a fan-fic where the Rebel’s get a hold of a Mandator (along with other old mothballed Republican ships) thanks to a Republic Loyalist (as in loyal to Democracy and the Republic, not its leader, Darth Wrinkle-face) who took the ships with him when he fled after Palpy declared the Empire.

That being said, I know that a Mandator is equal to 1000 Recusants in firepower…and that an Ex is equal to 100 ISD’s. But beyond that, I have no real idea on the firepower counts. I have neither the ROTS ICS (where can you find that by the way, I haven’t seen it at any of the local used book stores) nor Wookieepedia, or Force.net since my school blocked the two websites. But going from what I know, I’ll use a Recusant=Dreadnaught as a base for my own calcs (be forewarned, I don’t know how flawed that premise is…nor am I any good at math, so I’ll probably mess up at some point .

That being said… assuming a Recusant is roughly equal to a Dreadnaught…that would make 6 equal to one ISD (no matter how stupid it is, Zahn’s numbers are still canon sadly, and I have to use them since I don’t have any others…). So divide 1000 by 6…that would be roughly 167 ISDs!!

Okay, something is wrong here…no way is a Mandator that much stronger than an Executor… I must have something wrong here…can anyone help me with this? And I'm sorry if this has already been gone over, I only did a quick search on it...if it has been done can a Mod direct me to it and lock this?

Two Mandators should equal an Executor.

We know from SW:CL, that the power of Executor's shields are comparable to a small star. If we take our sun as a yard-stick, that would be 3.8*10^26 Watt. We know from the ISB, that typically 25% of a warships reactor-output go into shields, so the total output of Executor's reactor should be 1.52*10^27 Watt.

A Mandator has a maximum fuel-consumption of 8.6 million tons of hypermatter per second, what would equal 7.74*10^26 Watt, so for 1.96 Mandators you'd get one Executor.

Comparison to ISD/VSD. We know from ROTS:ICS, that a VSD has a maximum fuel-consumption of 40,000 tons of hypermatter per second. An ISD is five to six times larger, but lets be conservative and say, that its maximal fuel-consumption is four times that of a VSD, so we get 160,000 tons of fuel per second at maximum output.

8,600,000 (Mandator) / 160,000 (ISD) = 53,75 ISDs for one Mandator. Multiplied with 1.96 (see above) we get 105,35 ISDs for Executor.
The optimist thinks, that we live in the best of all possible worlds and the pessimist is afraid, that this is true.

Since the Recusants firepower is given in the ICS at ~7.7e23 watts, a Mandator will have a total firepower of ~7.7e26 watts. Saxton estimates the ISD at ~1e25 watts and the Executor at 1.3e27 watts, so a an Executor will be slightly outgunned by two Mandators.
Have a nice day.

Thanks for that...like I said, I don't have access to most of these materials, nor am I good (or knowledgeable) at math. Hence why I posted here, nowhere else on the internet will you find people so well informed on these topics, and with the knowledge to do that type of calcs (though that is because this website is a place where smart people thrive and idiots get banned :) ). I'm still just a lowly High School Senior...so I haven't learned most of this yet (most of that comes from my inability to do complex math...I don't get put in the advanced classes...)
