SirNitram wrote:Enlightenments comment is ill-placed: We've seen at least stabs at an ISD's internal spaces, and there's no farms there. There's apparantly widgets called 'Food Replicators', though, if that helps.

Ultimately, having dedicated cargo tenders hypering from the ISD to the supply base makes the supply train almost unassailable. Hell, they can be assigned to the supply bases and go out to any ship in a certain radius that needs resupply.

As for downtime and training, an ISD is, effectively, a city of 50,000 people, with a pop density probably close to that of an urban center. Since they can be on patrol for years, I find it impossible to believe there are not both entertainment facilities(Hell, one can easily imagine a 'Red Light' district slowly growing near the engineering space), and training facilities onboard.
None of the cutaways we see of ISDs preclude the existance of farms. Farms could reside on any of the anonymous decks depicted in the various cutaways. If ancient wooden galleons found room for livestock, I'm sure an ISD wouldn't be too pressed for space.

And about entertainment, you're right, there are certainly entertainment areas onboard. The Stele Chronicles (notes from which can be found at Wayne Poe's site) indicate that there is a shopping mall-like area somewhere in an ISD which caters to soldiers off duty and to the various civilian personnel (who are employed by these entertainment centers, presumably).
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Given the capacity of things like the Trade Federation ships, its not a matter of getting the supplies to the Destroyer, that’s easy. The bottle neck is getting them aboard. Rigging up an adapter to let a very large vessel unload into the hanger bay without needing shuttles would be easy though.

Then of course everything needs to be moved to the right location on ship, but that should be easy. Just unleash a ten thousand driod's carried along with the freighter.

If the freighter positions itself close to the hangar mouth, both ships could easily manipulate all cargo via tractor beams. They might even be able to extend an atmosphere around the area, though crewmen would want to wear protective suits just in case.

Also, the "garbage chute" at the aft end of the destroyer could theoretically take on cargo as well. It's obviously connected to a conveyor system which is very large, as can be seen by the size of the machines they're scrapping. The conveyor system probably has large routes throughout the length of the ship, to facilitate the on-the-fly replacement of large pieces of machinery anywhere in the ship. It probably connects to the hangar as well; Slave I somehow got into the trash, presumably via the hangar.

Do any book-source material mention the existence of hydroponic farms?

I believe I discussed this a couple of times on ASVS...I'll get back to you

I don't think so. But I do recall something on stasis fields which keep food fresh for prolonged periods. They may not be necessary.

But what about ISDs operating outside of supply routes or easy accessibilities? Such as those operating in the unknown regions. I find it hard that an ISD could store enough food stuff let alone spare parts and such to supply ~35,000 men.

Are the ISDs truly operating out of supply routes or easy accessibility? If so, I'm sure that a small fleet of ISDs with accompanying ships could operate without resupply for quite some time. As for an ISD storing all the food and spare parts, well, those ISDs are hellavu big.

Also fleets with 'Command Ships' like the Executor can rely on the big ships stores. Also because of Hyperdrive speeds you could resupply something along the lines of 'Death Fleet' with a dozen Star Galleons. You just keep them rotating. Each one can carry 100000 metric tons. More than enough.

As for food grown on board ships, the Death Stars had places for it IIRC but not the ships of the line.

I also forgot to add something that I think is important. When on patrol or even on some kind of exploration-like duy, the ISD or fleet of ISDs would be on a schedule. It's not like you send a ship out on patrol and forget about them. Even if a command ship like a SSD with accompanying ships doesn't report back within a certain period of time I can imagine that the Imps would assemble a bigger fleet to go looking for them. Same as if a ISD fails to report in to a supply depot or rendevous. So the logistical aspect obviously takes into account the schedule.

Your belief is irrelevent. If thier food replication tech and duplicators work on pure energy, then the only real limiting factors on an ISD are crew shore needs and hypermatter stores. Kinda similar to boomers, the only limiting factors on those things are food, and keeping the crew sane (and considering that they have 23 MT at their disposal, the second one is pretty important.)
