resources on lightsaber replicas

Post by mr friendly guy »

Basically on a whim I browsed lightsabers on Ebay. They range from toy ones to ones which are somewhat more expensive, and ones where we just have the hilt, but its even more expensive. Is there a website which actually reviews the product? A quick google search seems to show only sites which review prices. Any help would be appreciated.

Do these custom lightsabers produce the sounds Hasbro and Masterworks ones supposed to do. Because part of the fun is having the sound effects.

It looks like parksabers specifically do not include sound. The explanation being that they want the authentic look and including the sound and speakers is cumbersome.

Ultrasabers sells parts and complete sabers. They do have options for sounds and changing blade colors (multiple LEDs).

The above link is some of parksabers museum pieces. I must say the colour scheme of the hilt near the blade reminds me of the Predacons from G1 Transformers. The actualy shape of hilt looks like the Eleventh Doctors sonic screwdriver. I guess its great to design your own, but it looks somewhat weird.

Park sabers don't do sound.

Custom Saber shop, Ultrasabers, and a most other build your own sites sell the parts to make your saber produce sound. Mine does not as the parts are rather expensive. Mine only lights up.

I'd highly recommend Ultrasabers for durability. Unlike many other makers, their blades don't shatter, but squash in if they do fail. I've wrecked one of their mid-grade (standard) blades, and it was no mean feat. I'd shudder to think of the kind of punishment their heavy blades could take.

Here's some of the crap they can totally shrug off.

The muti-LED deely (called RGB) is cool, I have one, though I'd honestly recommend going for a single colour saber as the colour will be more intense. Also, some of the mixed colours (particularly the yellow) change dramatically toward the end of the battery life. Mind, I hear that doesn't happen with the L-ion power packs.

Oh, and they're great value for money, too.

That plug over, Custom Saber Shop is super cool, because you actually build it yourself (just like a real one! :D ).

Also check out Saber Forge and Gemini concepts. The former are great and the only place I know that makes a Stormtrooper lightsaber, while the latter are very pricey, mindblowing boutique stuff.

Does ultrasabers build let you design one online and then custom make it, or do they just ship you the parts and you have to build it yourself? After all a Jedi must make design and have someone else build his own lightsaber. :D It might be worth looking into in the future, but for now I was mainly interested in getting an official replica one, either masterworks or Hasbro. But now that I find out there are so many sites that make their own Sabers, its really cool.

BTW, is it just the standard hilt of the lightsaber in ultrasabers that can take punishment. Or can they custom a hilt which looks similar to Star Wars ones, which can also take that kind of punishment.

Ultrasabers can do custom work, and a lot of their new designs are the result of collaboration with buyers resulting in fruitful ideas. A good example is the Consular, which is very close to Qui-Gon's saber from TPM.

As for actual Ultrasabers film replicas, check these out:

http://www.ultrasabers.com/Luke-ANH-p/ufx-as-rots.htm
http://www.ultrasabers.com/DM2-p/ufx-dm-tpm2.htm

AFAIK, they are just as durable as any other Ultrasabers for duelling. They can also convert other sabers (MR and Hasbro , I think) to their blades.

My wife has a custom from ultrasabers. One of the heavy duty ones.

Let me put it this way - it stopped a overhead swing from a steel claymore without any efforts. And I was swinging to shatter it.

We considered putting the video up on You-Tube as proof, but did't bother for some reason.

Oh yeah. Neither one of us is very photogenic.
I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.

It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

Redo it with masks or hoods on and say they're just Sith costumes or something?

Was that steel claymore an experiment, or where you seriously dueling. :D Because if you were, it sounds cool, albeit dangerous if you were using a claymore rather than another ultrasaber.

Well just an update. I got hold of the Anakin replica from Hasbro. Not planning to have an ultrasaber one at the moment, but I will keep that in mind. Since the lightsaber is mainly for display and waving it around listening to the cool sounds, there is no need for a dueling one yet.

On the plus side I am keeping an eye out for the Luke Skywalker replica. Maybe I will get that as well.
