Star Wars books
Can somebody make a list of the SW books from the EU that are acceptable and a black list of wich ones we should avoid

Read anything by Timpthy Zahn, that is, the Thrawn trilogy and Hand of Thrawn Duology.
In the NJO, Star By Star is excellent, as is Traitor. Destinys way is pretty good, and so is Force Heretic I: Remenant.
RUN, RUN FROM KEVIN J ANDERSON! Darksaber is THE worst SW novel out there I can think of. His other works the Jedi Academy Trilogy, and the Young Jedi Knights novel, are similarly crap.
This is the knowledge I pass onto thee, go forth and conquer.

I wouldn't. They've given a lot of bad books good reviews.Lord Poe wrote:Go to http://www.theforce.netand read their book reviews section.Montcalm wrote:Can somebody make a list of the SW books from the EU that are acceptable and a black list of wich ones we should avoid
What Gnome said, and STAY AWAY FROM DARK JOURNEY.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

The NJO from Star By Star on, with the exception of DARK JOURNEY, is all good. Avoid all NJO books before it, there awful to marginal at best and Star By Star fills you in on everything anyway.

Some of the good EU novels for you:
A.C. Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy - Paradise Snare, Hutt Gambit, Rebel Dawn. They're all good solid stories that manage to make sense of the bits and peices of Han's past and do it justice.
X-Wings novels - Rogue Squadron, Wedge's Gamble, Krytos Trap, Bacta War, Wraith Squadron, Iron Fist, Solo Command, Isards Revenge, and Starfighters of Andumar. Though some will debate the merits Stackpole's techincal details all of his and Alliston's books are great reads. Action, Character and X-wings!
Thrawn Trilogy - Heir of the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command. The best Star Wars novels ever written. Enough said.
I,Jedi - What can I say, it's a cool book at it takes a good look at what it means to be a Jedi.
Corellian Trilogy - Ambush at Corellia, Assualt at Selonia, Showdown at Centerpint. Could be better but they aren't too bad.
Thrawn Duology - Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future Some great books. They're some fine books and are really right in every respect
AVOID THESE NOVELS. They are horrible for one reason or another
The Prequal Books - Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, Rogue Planet, Cloak of Deception. Dull and plodding in the same manner as TPM was.
Truce at Bakura - She got the spirit and style of Star Wars wrong. A decent book but not a good Star Wars book. To be fair her NJO book got the NJO Star Wars right
Bounty Hunter Wars - dumb, just plain dumb.
Jedi Academy - KJA's crap smeared over three of the worst books ever to befoul the EU. lame superweapon of the week deal overlayed with a uber-sith lord from out of nowhere
Children of the Jedi - slow and utterly pointless. Also a lame superweapon of the week deal
Darksaber - More KJA crap. Superweapon of the week on the one hand and an uber-fleet of doom! on the other.
Planet of Twilight - An utter "what the fuck?" book combined with a uberfleet of doom/superweapon of the week
Crystal Star - The defining "What the Fuck?" book combined with a darksider from out of nowhere plot
Black Fleet Crisis- They just get Star Wars wrong. Lacking the spirit and style of Star Wars. Good books but bad Star Wars
New Rebellion - a superweapon of the week book combined with a sith lord from nowhere plot (using the term lightly) combined horrible writing and a piss poor story
A few words on the New Jedi Order
Let me get this straight. I don't like the Vong, I think their rise is completely contrived. I hate the depressing atmosphere and the pointless destruction of beloved Original Trilogy and EU characters. A real downer of a series.
The only really good NJO book (and the last one I finished though I started Dark Journey) is Star by Star. It's got a glimmer of hope to it and is a well written, well paced and action & emotion filled book. I still don't like the seemingly pointless death of cool character but it's still not a bad book.
