The idea that the battle droids were not based on human aesthetics, but Nemoidian totally nullifies my annoyance with the battle droid behavior.
Agreed about Maul though and really, they should have had him survive and be the Dooku in the next two movies. I like Christopher Lee, but he doesn't really add to the movies and I think it would have been better served to show Sith Lords to be a little more resilient than getting killed by a Padawan.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Or they could have just ignored the "rule of two," and had both of them as aides.
"Oh no, oh yeah, tell me how can it be so fair
That we dying younger hiding from the police man over there
Just for breathing in the air they wanna leave me in the chair
Electric shocking body rocking beat streeting me to death"
- A.B. Original, Report to the Mist
"I think it’s the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."
- George Carlin

The Rule of Two actually makes sense though. I don't mind that either.
OK imagine this:
Obi Wan escorts the Queen and Ginn, in his Jedi hubris goes after Maul alone. Unbeknownst to him, Anakin sneaks out of the star fighter and follows Qui-Gon as he furiously battles Maul. Now, once you get to the pit you have Anakin watching as Maul runs Qui-Gon through. The shield opens and to Mauls surprise Anakin calls the other half of his lightsaber to him and ignites at and violently attacks him letting all his anger and rage out as he tosses Maul aside with the Force while instinctively attacking with Mauls own red saber half (yeay for foreshadowing) in a quick but powerful attack Anakin severs Mauls hand (yeay for more foreshadowing) and forces his retreat.
Now you have Anakin emotionally angry at the Sith for killing Qui-Gon right in front of his eyes. You have a direct antagonistic relationship between Maul and Anakin that can go back and fourth for the next two movies, Maul can be expanded as a character and fill the political role Dooku did, or can even just use Dooku as a front so you still have the charisma of Lee in the films.

I hope Episode 7 is good enough that we can just finally stop talking about various ways the Prequels could have been better.
I actually have faith that Disney can pull this off pretty decently.
