Interesting quote's from "Isard's Revenge"

Post by Grand Admiral Thrawn »

"Moonshadow's [ISD-II] gunners concentrated their fire along Direption's [ISD-II] port edge, seeking to destroy the other ship's weaponry. Heavy turbolasers, heavy turbolaser cannons, and ion beams all played out, splashing red and blue energy across Direption's shields. The weapons' energy bled into the sphere of the shields, nibbling away at it, shrinking it like a balloon with a slow leak. Then suddenly the shields collapsed and beams played along the hull. Turbolaser batteries exploded and hull plates evaporated. Fire jetted into space as shots burned through the hull and consumed the atmosphere within.
Direption's return salvo proved no less deadly to Moonshadow. The Hegemony's gunners concentrated their fire on several points, driving energy wedges deep into the shields. Breaches opened and the beams ripped long, jagged scars over Moonshadow's surface. Sensor towers exploded and ion cannons melted beneath the withering assault."

Battle between 2 ISDs. Time unknown.

"Krennel's [Onboard an ISD-II] foward gunners targeted the lead Corvette, a ship called Pride of Selonia. Heavy turbolaser fire crushed the ships forward shields, then burned tattered, black furrows along the ship's hull. Debris and bodies vented into space, expelled by flaming gouts of superheated atmosphere. Heavy turbolaser cannons scattered shots over the bridge and back along the ship's spine, destroying its communication array. In one terrible swift blow, the Pride of Selonia went from being a warship crewed by brave individuals to a floating charnel ship trailing webs of congealed metal"

An ISD's HTLs can target a 150 meter long corvette.

That's X-Wing series right? I haven't read past the second one, after reading some Janson quotes though I think I should.

If you are reading X wing, skip the stackpole ones and go straight to the Allison ones. Those are the good ones with Wes.

Interestingly, Starfighters of Adumar is the only Wars book to not feature Jedi in it, yet it is also easily one of the best.

It is the best X-Wing book. It is not anywhere near as good as HttE, or SbS.

Stackpole is inconsistent with his writing. Sometimes he is quite good, and sometimes his work flops.

That's what you get when you write a book in less than 100 hours.

Not necessarily. "Heavy turbolaser fire" could mean many turbolasers firing, thus the corvette came under 'heavy' attack. Also, notice that in the first passage "heavy turbolasers" are distinguished from "heavy turbolaser cannons". Which is bigger?

WTF do you think HTL cannons mean?

And the dif between HTLs and HTL cannons is because he uses @#$% WEG figures.

It does say the forward gunners target the Corvette, and the HTLs are on the broadsides. Is there anything more to the exerpt?

I don't know. That's why I asked.

SPOOFE is exaggerating. Stackpole writes them in 200 hours.

But the writing insists the gunners were at the forward of the ship. Of course, no canon evidence goes agianst the HTL firing control being at the front. However, the ICS puts the controls of the HTL's near them. Anyway, thanks for telling me that the HTL's can fire forward.

My aunt went to the same college as Michael Stackpole, at the same time. Apparently he had a bad case of acne, was rather unpopular, and was very(quote) 'nerdy'.

Why am I not suprised?

All right, so I was off (thanks, Yoshi). But, still, 200 hours is less than 10 days total (I'm sure he spaces 'em out a bit). That's a really hurried pace for writing a 300-400 page novel.

Forward gunners could mean the guns in the bow, or just everything that can fire forward.
