In a remote and midnight vacuum beyond the edge of the galaxy, the vast Rebel fleet stretched, from its vanguard to its rear echelon, past the range of human vision. Corellian battle ships, cruisers, destroyers, carriers, bombers, Sullustian cargo freighters, Calamarian tankers, Alderaanian gunships, Kesselian blockade runners, Bestinian skyhoppers, X-wing, Y-wing, and A-wing fighters, shuttles, transport vehicles, manowars. Every Rebel in the galaxy, soldier and civilian alike, waited tensely in these ships for instructions. They were led by the largest of the Rebel Star Cruisers, the Headquarters Frigate.

As for the movie saying the total Rebel Fleet gathering at Sullust...
I rather think the Rebels knew that imperial agents will watch the gathering at Sullust and they "leaked" out the info that suggested it's their entire fleet, while most of their ships gathered elsewhere.
The presence of the Home One was proof enough to make the imperials believe that's the whole rebel fleet. They reported to Vader, who reported to the Emperor. That's all.
Very excellent observation. The Empire isn't the only one who can play
at the game of disinformation.

Does not matter.
3rd person omniscient perspective and the specific briefing of Ackbar says most of the fleet was there. I'm sure they left some other resources scattered about, but that was nearly everything the Rebels had.

It's possible that they scattered the Fleet around Sullust rather than concentrated it for the jump to Endor, since we didn't see that many craft launching with Ackbar.
It still did not contain more than a dozen cruisers, max.

I'm not saying they have much more left.
Almost everything they had was thrown in at the Battle of Endor.
I only think the gathering point weren't only Sullust.
Someone give me the a quote from the movie on Ackbar's briefing.
There should be some translation mistakes since I have a the movie in a different language.
Sullust was the only rendezvous point. As quoted already, the canonical novelisation of Return of the Jedi explicitly states:
In a remote and midnight vacuum beyond the edge of the galaxy, the vast Rebel fleet stretched, from its vanguard to its rear echelon, past the range of human vision.
