What do we know about them, from those who have read the books? I have read internet sources and have the Essential Guide to Species, but these don't really give the whole story. I know they are large, strong, evil fundies with a clan-based society, and I know their general appearence. But do they ever fight in the books? How effective are they? Is anything new learned in the latest book featuring them (If you don't want to spoil the book for others, PM me)? I have searched for this topic, but found very little.
Mainly I care about their military, weapons technology, and biology from the point of view of someone who wants to make stats for them for an RPG. Thanks in advance.

Read Truce at Bakura.

Basically, they suck at fighting. They're small and relatively insignificant, except they defend their bases extremely well and are therefore difficult to wage an offensive war against.

They're actually pretty good at fighting. They're just scared to die on an unconsecrated world.

Not really. At Bakura, they had four cruisers and a carrier against one Carrack Cruiser, a few TIE squadrons, and an escort carrier. They lost. End of story.CaptainChewbacca wrote:They're actually pretty good at fighting. They're just scared to die on an unconsecrated world.

They suck at fighting. They rely on human-soul powered ships to do all they hard work. When they actually came to Bakuras surface Skywalker handed them their asses they pissed themselves when Luke even cut of one of their hands. They only captured Luke when he was distracted than they hit him blind sided.

Didn't the Rebels send a few ships as well to Bakura?Master of Ossus wrote:Not really. Yeah, a few corvettes and a converted freighter.

Ok, so they kind of shrink away from personal combat and don't deal with jedi well. Is their technology comparable with the galaxy proper, or do they rely on numbers to win anything? Do they use blaster-like things at all, or just paddle-beamers? I really do appreciate the responses so far, I find these guys to be rather cool, and I haven't found much info elsewhere

I'm going to assume that you are talking about Truce at Bakura, and if so, it is already known that Ssi-Ruu are zealously afraid of dying off of a consecrated world. How did the Ssi-Ruu fair once the battle came to their worlds?Master of Ossus wrote:Not really. Quite well, according to the X-Wing novels. The Ssi-Ruuk were infamous for fortifying their homeworlds--to the point where X-Wings had substantial difficulty surviving a mere stop-and-go maneuver to get a quick scan of their planets and leaving. It was considered suicide to try such a maneuver against their major bases and holdings.Captain_Cyran wrote:I'm going to assume that you are talking about Truce at Bakura, and if so, it is already known that Ssi-Ruu are zealously afraid of dying off of a consecrated world. Their weapons, power generation, and overall tech are inferior according to Refugee; they made several improvements but are still behind.
They do tend to have really strong shields though, going by Han's comments about fighter shield strength.
They seem to be more geared towards fighter combat then ship to ship as their ships mount mainly Ion cannons so they can capture prisoners for enteching.
For more indepth data on the ships, there is the Truce at Bakura sourcebook by WEG, but it is out of date.
