ShamTrooper, AWOLtrooper, ClercTrooper,CookTrooper,CheeserTrooper.
(Shamming is armyspeak for avoiding work, and cheesing is asskissing your superiors)
The CheeseTrooper is very often a ShamTrooper when an officer or NCO shows up.

Why? The material changes with the nature of the mission, not the trooper... You don't see Green Berets being named for their specialization skills do you? (ok, except in their service records.)

Well, that's just how it is in the Empire.

AFAIK, when a stormtrooper is pulled from the ranks to become a variant, it is permanent. After all, once you consider the vast amounts of worlds in the Empire, they need vast quantities of variant troopers. And having a jack of all trades, master of none trooper would get Imperial ground forces royally screwed out there fighting Rebels.

So I imagine once a trooper made a vairant, it is permanent and they don't learn the skills neccesary to be a snowtrooper, spacetrooper, seatrooper, ect.

Stormtrooper is pretty much just the standard. Most of the variants are for terrain, and involve special and advanced training.

i.e Spacetrooper's are stormtroopers in Spacetrooper armor, but designed for fighting in Zero-G and deep space

Yes, I see. The Empire is just a big bureaucratic machine...
