Jeebus does he really expect people only to recognize the SE and basically say there was no 1977 version?

Is it really that bad if Han Solo shoots before Greedo?

For us, who 'lived' the original, yes. Like changing history by saying there was no holocaust or such ...
Besides, the SE is worse. Han Solo's character development is poorer. (Yes, only because his action was fully and undoubtedly legal.) And the scene is just unrealistic. :(

Besides yes, that's really missing the point. It's not so much the changes he made to Star Wars, but the fact that he wants the version he didn't change to not exist.

Thank God I still have my non-SE trilogy stored away in my basement or I'd probably flip out, what with old Georgy hunting down the non-SE OT like it were the Holiday Special.

remember in 1995 when all the advertisments said "the original on video...one last time"? They werent lying.

But i agree that Lucas i being stubborn on this. I prefer the SE but i still love the originals and watch them from time to time--theres a certain charm to the imperfections. I understand why Lucas is worried; especially considering he'll be doing an Ultimate Edition soon after Ep III, in his eye, the Special Editions of the film are what he wants people to see and considers the originals to be inferior. For an artist to make available something of theirs which they disapprove of is a difficult thing. I just dont see why he wont give the people what they want though, what everyone hsas enjoyed for decades. Hell, just from a business point of view its a smart thing.

But it doesnt matter--LFL is apparently releasing the films on DVD for X-mas 2004, and it seems that they are considering including the original versions. This is no doubt due to the "original trilogy" online petition that is almost 50, 000 fans strong. LFL is monitoring the situation "with strong interest" it seems.

It destroys the character. Being a survivor, Solo would never let Greedo shoot first. Also, at this point, we don't know if Solo is a good or bad guy. When he shoots Greedo without batting an eye, we are left to wonder if he will turn Ben and Luke over to the Empire for money. And this is borne out in the radio play, as Solo seems to consider it.

Funny how everyone replies to Simon as if he had said the exact opposite of what he actually said.
