Senator Tikkes, a Quarren, was among those Senators who were at Geonosis during the Republic attack. If you read Holonet News, it's revealed that he had been busted for betting on political events, and he was going to be incarcerated, but he escaped and pledged Mon Calamari to the Separatist cause.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

This would somewhat explain why one might see some of the Mon Cal species fighting along with the republic. If in fact the interspecies rivalry between the two is as strong in the Old Republic Era as it was in the Imperial Era.

I'll have to rewatch that part of the movie again. I never noticed that before. Thanks. By the way, where is the battle for Kamino described?

Holonet news isn't in the movie. It's a site with news on what's happening outside of just events from the movie. Like the example given.

True, but Tikkes can be seen on Geonosis during the movie.

And the battle for Kamino is depicted in a comic book series.

It was mostly in "Star Wars: Republic," but it was also in an issue of "Star Wars: Jedi."

It's in Republic issues 49-50, but also in Jedi - Mace Windu. It is also available in TPB format, I believe.
