Death Star Acceleration

Death Star Acceleration
Un noticed Update
Anyone wanna try and figure it for a complete death star 2? It figures it should be less then DS1, there are practical limitations to what an ion engine can do and the Death Stars have to be pushing those limits. Since the DS2 is 5-6 times greater in volume (and a corresponding mass for an equal density) it follows it should be slower.

WEG stats are about as low on the totem you can get for Official information. That's being generous and not writing them off as corrupted by game enjoyment and balance issues since they -are- game mechanics.

I saw the update. Something bugs me about it, but I'm not quite sure what it is.

I know the canon ladder. It was a side note for comparison. I'm pointing out that I don't think we can get a canon upper limit for the maximum acceleration of the DS2. We can get an upper limit of observed events, but unless we can determine that maximum acceleration was used, it's not a true upper limit of the DS2's capability. And I mean movement, not angular acceleration. That was in all likelihood the max.Illuminatus Primus wrote:WEG stats are about as low on the totem you can get for Official information. Probably same thing as me, I'm having a bit of trouble wrapping my mind around how using more engines makes it accelerate slower. I understand it mathmatically, but the concept seems wrong some howHowedar wrote:I saw the update. Something bugs me about it, but I'm not quite sure what it is.

I should calculate out a rough acceleration the DS1 showed in ANH (it had to be thrusting outward since it was moving WAY faster than orbital velocity closing on Yavin 4). The numbers Saxton arrived at just seem fantastically low in light of the ANH bit. This can partly be rationalized away since the DS2 is incomplete, but I still don't like it.

I knwo that SPOOFe, I'm having issues more along the line of "One engine will impart X amount of momentum per second, but using two engines with that same power will make it go slower for the same mass"SPOOFE wrote:Think of it this way:Probably same thing as me, I'm having a bit of trouble wrapping my mind around how using more engines makes it accelerate slower.
If you double the power output of an engine, but triple the mass of the vessel, what happens?
