Possible Continuity Error?

Post by Joe »

I was just re-reading Dark Force Rising, and noticed that the Noghri said that the Emperor and Vader first came to them forty-four years before the time the novel takes place. Darth Vader didn't even exist until 28 years before the novel took place, nor did the Empire; am I just missing something, or is this a serious continuity error?

Probably an error with the Prequels. One thing I won't dog the EU about stuff like that, mainly because it started before Lucas decided to begin the prequels. However, yes, that and numerous other facts are out because of the movies. Oh well.

Including things we know from the Original Trilogy.

I just did some research on this; in the Essential Guide to Aliens, it is explained that the Noghri were not familiar with how to convert Noghri years to galactic standard years, so they were wrong. A cheap explanation, but it works. Also it says that Leia was too stressed out to realize that they were wrong. Another cheap excuse.

Care to elaborate?

a Real Life answer is that Lucas and many other pop culture artists and their stories tell us that if a prequel is made some somethings that have occured before in thier sagas must be sacraficed.

In SW answer form, when the Empire was born and the Emperors New Order was up and running strong as ever, he had all the calander system redone and made a new timeline of the New Order that will calculate the years. Some time and years of less sentient beings calanders may have been lost or more added in some ways.

And my i remind you that the time line in which we calculate from is based on before and after A New Hope. Kinda shows how simple minded us Earthligns are.

Its' a sad fact that, because GL didn't write the EU himself, the writer's visions of the Universe is somewhat different.

"Given the choice, whether to rule a corrupt and failing Empire, or to challenge the fates for another throw, a better throw against one's destiny, what was a king to do?

But does one ever truly have a choice. One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate, and thus defy the tyrannous stars" - Kain

Or in KJA's case usually dead wrong.

I heard that in the Essential Chronology it's explained that the Noghri stated the length of time in native years, which are shorter than the Standard Year.
