Star Wars: The TV Series?

Sources for The Force.net have told the website about a tantalizing rumor: there might be a proposal for a post-EPISODE III STAR WARS TV show on someone's desk. The Force.net hears speculation that the premise of the show follows the infamous and terrifying rise to power of Sith Lord Darth Vader between the purge of the Jedi Knights and the start of A NEW HOPE. Whether this alleged TV show would be live-action or animation (as Cartoon Network's CLONE WARS series is) remains unclear.

Sorry given the state of most television, I dunno....animated might be slightly better but even then.

I'd rather stick to movies and some books and what not.

Same here. Star Wars is meant for the big screen, just as Trek is meant for the small screen.

all i can say is just no. unless it has an amazingly huge budget and good producers/writers, no. star wars i simply can't see working as a tv series. a mini series ala children of dune, maybe. but a full blown tv series? no way. . . .

A limited-run (ie two seasons) television series could work very well if it followed the rise of the rebellion--i guess it'd be similar to the Starshipt Troopers:Roughnecks series.

A miniseries would be better though--perhaps ending with the rebels "first victory against the empire" which we hear of in the opening crawl in episode IV. Though technically the radio drama already covered this, and i'm sure EU has as well (but fuck all that).

Anyway, a post-movie SW TV show is a natural conclusion, and Lucas and co have certainly hinted strongly at it in the past, but right now this rumor seems a little suspicious, at least until stronger (or for that matter, any) evidence is gathered in its favor.

Hopefully if Clone Wars is any indication, it should be half-decent, provided it ends its run shortly so that the writers can script the whole story arc from start to finish in advanced. I'm sure Lucas will be writting the outline and reviewing each script personally anyway.

The Clone wars animation had "Cool factor" because it was Star Wars, but come on, seriously, Speederbike lance battle....just....no...

I would actually like to see a SW TV series, and have wanted to for a long time. Execution would be paramount of course, but they wouldn't have to follow the movie storyline. There are a million worlds with several thousand years of history to go through. They don't have to follow the fucking same dozen people all the time!

Not the best looking cartoon (in fact, one of the worst IMO), but the animation had a certain speed and style that I appreciated regardless.

That's Genndy Tartakovsky's style, though. I *do* quite like his animation. It may be choppy and unrealistic, but I think that's it's appeal in a twisted kind of way. I really believe that style of animation (The two frame hammer smash to the head, for instance) began with shows like ren and Stimpy (More modern) I mean, if you look at the powerpuff girls, or Any Truly Tartakovsky animation, that effect is present in them all. I just, Don't know, I find it difficult to believe lucas okayed a "Force lance" charge. (That's a lie, I really don't find it difficult) If not Tartakovsky, then who would you have had do it?
