Is there time between the start + middle of ROTJ

I ask this because when Han left Echo base he was a Captain, during the Endor briefing scene, he is referred to as General Solo. Is there any explanation for this? (EU or otherwise)

probably called him general as an honorary title for the mission, or for saving Leia from Echo Base

He was called Captain because he was the owner oif his own ship making him a Captain. But by the time of the Endor mission he had accepted a full role in the Rebellion and in respet of his sacrifices for the cause and his Imperial expertise they gave him a Generalship.
