Kuat Drive Yards was probably starved of resources after the death of the Emperor, and the civil war between the myriad Imperial Remnant factions definitely took its toll. Also, 200 is probably not a universal number, and is probably the number of Star Destroyers under Thrawn/Pelleaon's command-rather than every Star Destroyer ever built.

Argh crap disregard the last 'universal number' part I forgot the quote that said out of 25,000 only 200 had survived the war.
Disregard.
Disregard.
But yeah the first part is still valid- civil war would've really screwed up the fleet and is the only way the Rebellion managed to slide into power.

The infighting after the Emperor's Death Destroyed nearly 30% of the Military Forces

Probably not whole commands. I think that happened only in the Koornatch Cluster. I find it very very hard to believe the Empire would be so stupid as to allow that to happen twice.Muad'Dib wrote:Don't forget the Black Sword Fleet. If it was done once maybe other systems over turned the Imperial forces and captured assault fleets.
But defections and those that went rogue probably took their toll as well. I doubt Palleon is counting ships in other people's hands.

Still it seems like a crock to loose at least 10000 of em when they may still have been b8uilt at Kuat and other places

Brutal attrition will due that. Remember that it's been something like fifteen to twenty years of grinding attritional warfare. That'll take a serious toll, and in the decline the warlords were extremely limited in what they could build and/or maintain. I wouldn't be suprised if at least some of those ships ended up cannabalized by the warlords to keep the rest working . Supposedly parts were scarce for some of the renegades.Typhonis 1 wrote:Still it seems like a crock to loose at least 10000 of em when they may still have been b8uilt at Kuat and other places

Also Kuat seems to have destroyed it's main manufacturing platforms in one of the books, i think it was tales of the New Republic, the Rebels were trying to get Kuat on it's side, the Empire moved in to take direct control, and the platforms were rigged to explode in such circumstances.
I might be wrong it's been a while since i read that book.

Kuat was largely nationalized by the Empire proper. It was captured shortly before Thrawn's campiagn. It is unknown whether it was shortly abandoned during the abortive blitzkrieg from the Deep Core ordered by the Emperor upon his return to the public scene a year after Thrawn. By NJO, its definitely an independent entity contracted by the New Republic.

Besides which, Boba Fett prevented Kuat from completely destroying the yards (they were only partially destroyed.) After Endor, the Empire stationed 15 Star Destroyers permanantly there for Kuati defense (And, for that matter, they were still able to produce Executors - The Razor's Kiss in Iron Fist, for exmaple). Kuat is/was still strong and viable shipbuilder in post-Endor times.

Actually we can use the Dodonna calcs on a sliding scale Less firepower = more ships. Fewer ships = greater firepower.
If we go with 1e32 (I think this is the minimum to destroy a planet) as the *average* firepower per ship, the Empire's total fleet assets are around 1 million ships. This doesnt account for differences in firepower (since this number would include small ships like frigates and corvettes as well as large battleships and destroyers..) In fact the known estimates on power tend to favor incredibly high numbers of ships (millions, if not billions). And this is from a CANON statement (Although EU sources help to solidify this immensely)
This is substantiated by the DS-2 construction rates (which are canon too, backed by EU.) also validate a rahter large fleet. We just don't know the exact composition of said fleet

Guide to Planets an Old SW Refernce book mentions several times that Kuat is one of the best defended systems in the Galaxy and that is has a fleet of HUNDREDS of Cap-ships on hand at all times for system defense Plus the Local Sector Fleet

Well I would have to go with the Marina O'Leary file that Sea Skimmer posted. Looks well researched and I can't find any glaring inconsistencies with my recollection of the mentioned material (I believe Imperial Sourcebook was also used heavily but not mentioned).
This then gives on the order of 25,000+2,000,000 ISD type I&II in the SW galaxy, mostly on picket duty over core/member worlds.
