Actually it's been al but confirmed that one of the main villians for the 9 book series will be Darth Lumiya Who was trained by Vader.
Why the spoiler size? Nothing spoilerific in there :?

I thought I heard something about Lady Lumiya being used in a future story. Maybe this is it?

No, the TFNers have pretty much hyped it that way. All that was ever said was that we would see her again.

Drat, no Greg Keyes or Mathew Stover. While three Troy Dennings are nice, of the recent SW novels I've read, the Edge of Victory duology, Traitor, and the Episode III novelizations(Stover doesn't suffer from the minimalization most EU authors do) have been my favorite. Three Allstons are alright, the Rebel Stand duology were good, but that might be cause they are the first books in the whole damn series the Republic accually starts doing something.

Just a reminder to everyone that the third and final book of the Dark Nest trilogy, The Swarm War, officially goes on sale six days from today. However, some stores may have it early. Either way, enjoy the countdown...

This 3rd book better have something good in it. The first 2 Darknest books haven't exactly blown up my skirt. The writters are goning to have to pull out a few rebbits if they expect me to keep paying. I'd be richer if i was a movie-only purest.

One question about Dark Nest however, in The Unseen Queen Admiral Sovv is described as SC of the Alliance Fleet but i thought at the end of the Vong war he retired and was replaced by Kre'fey.

Nope; both Luke and Jacen are confirmed players for the Jedi Order for Betrayal. The title, however, gives one pause for thought, eh?... 8)

Well, I won't give a full review, mostly because it was giant plate of "meh" served with a side order of "mediocre" :(

That was the feeling I got from The Joiner King. The whole story was just like, umm...we defeated the Empire, the Yuuzhan Vong are no longer a threat, and there's a big stable alliance of galatic governments. Let's pooma an enemy that really isn't that threatening and have a little political manuevering. And, to top it all off, let's make it three books long, when this is something that would barely fill a medium novel.
While I was reading the book, I kept waiting for something to happen, something that I could care about. None of that seemed to appear. More than that, the book just didn't feel like Star Wars. It wasn't like it was terrible like The Crystal Star, Children of the Jedi, or Planet of Twilight, it just seemed to lack whatever it is that makes Star Wars what it is.

I believe that it's time to leave the post-NJO period alone for awhile. All the major enemies have been defeated, and it's about time that our heroes get a rest for ridding the galaxy of the Empire and the Vong. There's a nice twenty-year span that's been opened up that provides plenty of opportunity for the evil Empire and Rebellion stories. I'd be more willing to read about the rise of the Empire and Darth Vader and stormtroopers and the nascent Rebellion than another rehashed Empire clone or alien menace.

I've only read The Joiner King but the Dark Nest trilogy seems all right to me. I just turn off my brain and read it as a standalone novel that is using characters from Star Wars, instead of it being a Star Wars book. For me, that helps immensely.

I figure we should get away from anything connected to the Big Trio, including the fight against the Empire. Focus on ordinary people (civilians, stormtroopers, smugglers, bounty hunters, etc.) and how they live their lives under the New Order, or either of the Republics.

Or stop trying to make everything of galactic or large scale importance. There has been 50 years now of periodic galactic turmoil. Lets see something smaller scale(like the Desann or Tavion attempts at Force-using armies from the Jedi Knight game series). Or if you can't get something like that published, try going the KOTOR style, you've got what 25,000 years of Republic reign to work with?

Fuck, go back to the rebellion era and tell some stories that don't center on the trio. Tell about the schmucks trying to do an endrun around the Empire with some intelligence about Derra 4 and have them all fail and die or something.

NJOE has now posted the Dramatis Personae for Legacy of the Force: Betrayal as well as a short excerpt. Thanks goes out to Dartzap for spotting this:
Aidel Saxan (human female)
Ben Skywalker (human male)
Brisha Syo (human female)
C-3PO (protocol droid)
Cal Omas, Chief of State, Galactic Alliance (human male)
Gilad Pellaeon, Admiral, Galactic Alliance (human male)
Han Solo, Captain, Millennium Falcon (human male)
Heilan Rotham (human female)
Jacen Solo, Jedi Knight (human male)
Jaina Solo, Jedi Knight (human female)
Kolir Hu'lya, Jedi Knight (Bothan female)
Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master (human male)
Lysa Dunter, Ensign, Galactic Alliance (human female)
Mara Jade Skywalker, Jedi Master (human female)
Nelani Dinn, Jedi Knight (human female)
R2-D2 (astromech droid)
Syal Antilles, Ensign, Galactic Alliance (human female)
Thann Mithric, Jedi Knight (Falleen male)
Thrackan Sal-Solo, Head of State, Corellia (human male)
Tiu Zax, Jedi Knight (Omwati female)
Toval Seyah, Doctor (human male)
Tycho Celchu, General, Galactic Alliance (human male)
Wedge Antilles, General, Corellia (human male)
Zekk, Jedi Knight (human male)
...and...
Ben brought out his lightsaber and switched it on. With a snap-hiss sound, its blue blade of coherent energy extended to full length. Ben plunged the blade into the wall panel and began to drag it around in a large circle.

Testan, his voice pained, said, "He said it was a practice weapon."

Jacen gave him an innocent look. "It's true from a certain point of view. He does practice with it."

The Old Man of the Empire is still going strong, it seems. It appears that either he's so beloved by the readers by now that killing him would be a bad move, or then he's just beloved by the writers, or both (at least he has some working brain cells and some form of ethical code, unlike many other current EU characters).

Looking at that quickly, it appears that there is some kind of riff between Corellia and the GA. Interesting.

More interesting is again, the lack of term limits. Cal Omas will now havbe been Chancellor/President/Chief of state for 11 years; Old Republic term limits put it at 8 max; Palpatine was Supreme Chancellor for 13; Leia was on again off again something like 9; Mon Mothma ran the show from 3 BBY when the Rebel Alliance was officially formed until 11 ABY for a total of 14.

Sues Rostini has stated that the Dramatis Personae released for Betrayal is not the final version:
Yes, Leia will be in BETRAYAL. And yes, Luke is still a Grand Master....

And I will be adding more names to this list as the days (weeks?) pass....

Like Matric Klauskin, Galactic Alliance, Admiral (human male) (oh, he's from Commenor, fyi)
