The question would be how many shots it would take for those guns to melt the asteroid. 6.620E7 is a crapload more than the Acclamator's 200 gigaton guns.

Considering they talk about piercing shields in the same sentence, and from what I've heard breaking through shields is easiest with lots of instantaneous energy, not prolonged (though I could be wrong), it shouldn't be too long of a bombardment...

Really??? So Carracks and Dreadnaughts are (sorta) Cannon via novelization?
I guess the Dreadnaughts are from the Rendili fleet as shown in the Dark Horse Comics Republic series recently.
*does the happy dance*
Yippie! In one day I find out that both 'Imperator' and Dreadnaughts get to become Canon!

Wrong. Mike's calculator is based on a nickle-iron asteroid.

What kind of pussy battle station is this? It can get bitch slapped by a ship less than 10% of its length, and probably only a minute fraction of its volume. That has to use a portion of its interior space for propulsion systems, no less.

Screenshot.

I AM reading this correctly, right? It looks to me as if it works for ice asteroids too...

No worries... I probably should've linked or done something more than just say it with no backing... ^^;;

Anyways... magnitude 10 earthquake? What kind of energy is that?

8)

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it.

Let it be known:
These included the hour-long orbital bombardment that depopulated and melted the crust of the former city planet of [can't read, too blurred], an ancient founding world of the Republic.
EDIT: the battle takes place *within* Coruscant's planetary shield? Woah.

And in the same stroke it mentions other city-planets besides Nar Shadaa and Coruscant, too... that's something I've been looking for.

Edit: Planet's name looks like "Humbarine" to me.

Emphasis mine:

We know planetary shields aren't usually kept up 24/7. The Separatist fleet even manages to attack Coruscant before its shields are raised. Couldn't large, useless ships like Invincible-class Dreadnaughts be sent on kamikaze hyperspace missions to devastate enemy planets?

A6, eh? Good move. It would explain the unavoidable slight differences in design with the A5 in the Imperial Sourcebook. Plus they have different arsenals as well.

Discussion as to which cockpit is the primary cockpit? I would have thought that KDY'd have manuals out saying which cockpit is which.

Ah, you're right. I went back and checked-- Anakin does shoot out the bay shield.

"Energy flared from his cannons, and the shield emitters on the right side of the hanger door exploded into scrap. The blue shimmer of the bay shield flickered, faded, and vanished..."

Sorry. It's harder to remember things when listening to a novel than when reading it.

For what it's worth, I think it could be interpreted that the shields in question covered the bay only. Obi-Wan mentions a few minutes before this that the bay shields drop to let some fighters out.

The carrack/dreadnaught attack comes a few minutes later. Oh, and the carrack cruiser RSS Integrity is commanded by one LCDR Lorth Needa. 8)

And by the way... the Hand is a Providence-class cruiser/carrier.

The novel has alot of other interesting little technical details, too.

Well Saxton's authorative technical guide calls it a destroyer/carrier, so I'll run with that. Additionally, the ICS above has images specifying that the atmospheric containment/air traffic control shield over the bay was destroyed, and the primary shields were already down.

RSS? We know the prefix stylization now. Republic Star Ship.

Guess its HIMSS (His Imperial Majesty's Star Ship) now.

He must have been pretty young to have commanded a ship then. He doesn't look like he's reached 50 yet in ESB.

And there was much rejoicing.
For the record, its only the name of the ship in between Episode II and the end of episode III. It gets changed to Imperial Class BY CANON after the purge :P
