Perhaps what collision-avoidance features the scouts had were designed to deal with lower velocities?

It's been awhile since I saw RotJ; I remember that one scout is blown up by Chewie's bowcaster (pretty powerful, that thing), another's bike gets its front fins entangled in Luke's (and would thus seemed unlikely to be able to maneuver), and another's front assembly is sliced off wholesale by Luke's lightsaber, and immediately goes terminally out of control into a tree.

Are there any collisions we see in RotJ that don't result from damage to the speeder's maneuvering fins or those brake flaps on the back?
The closest there is is the following scene.
This video of the speeder bike chase (with different background music, and I think a bit is cut out, but the relevant scene is the same) shows how one speeder is destroyed without having been damaged immediately before that.
At 1:35 he had "stepped on the pedal" and gone significantly faster. At 1:45 Leia hits him in the back of the bike, but he continues flying normally (he also looks to the side several times without crashing). At 2:03 in the video the scout trooper looks back (at Leia jumping off her speeder bike). At 2:05 he looks forward again (and starts shouting). At 2:07 he flies into a tree stump.
Maybe something was damaged, maybe it wasn't. I don't know if the novelization says anything about this scene (I don't have it, and have never read it).

Upon further consideration, I suppose my dismissal of the possibility of such an avoidance system was overly hasty. At the speeds that the speeder bikes were traveling, especially considering the distracted state of their pilots, some sort of artificial aide would have been a virtual necessity.

Nevertheless, it must be remembered that swoops are not speeder bikes. While the latter is a military/utility vehicle with a practical design and purpose, swoops are largely pleasure/sport vehicles, constructed solely for raw speed. Extra safety "baggage" might slow the contraption down, and more reckless pilots might look down upon the devices as cheats or limiting factors.

Humanity has the highest pop in the GFFA? I always thought everything was aimed towards their use based on how dominant they are in politics and the military.

Perhaps not a majority, but they're certainly larger than any other single group. Even more so if you consider from a product design point of view twi'leks and some other species to be essentially 'human enough.'
