If that's a worry, you make two copies, and keep them in seperate locations.

Simple as that.

Is making a backup copy of a piece of software you value "paranoid"?

If it is, then have me committed. Image

I'll have to get back to you with how big they are. Like I said, most of the films are one or two files each, and will easily fit on one cd (by themselves). I believe TT is 3 sections. So i'll take a look and get a total for the MB size.

Then they have to be under 700 MB a piece.

That's rich.. so I guess if you use a cd burner, you're paranoid.Image
At least I'm in good company!

So tell me, would YOU buy the Super Special Archival Editions of the Star Wars original trilogy when it comes out on DVD in 2005?

Yes.

2006, actually, I believe.

And I would especially buy it if it was a six to nine disc set with both Trilogies.

So you missed the entire point of this thread.. which was that the people who were upset not being able to obtain the original (non SE) Star Wars trilogy on DVD wanted some alternative.

For you, you're perfectly happy with modified versions, and you'll wait patiently for the new modified versions on DVD. That's perfectly fine.

You said if you had the LD's that would be fine, you'd be satisfied, so your gripe was not with the format at all. ; )

Why didn't you just say so in the first place?! It was fun arguing though.

I don't care if GL makes a new version of the trilogy, just so long as I can have a copy of the original films, as they were shown in theaters(+vhs+LD) for 20 years before he decided to start tinkering around with the visuals. Since he won't give me that, hence the rest of the discussion.

If you HAD the originals on LD (not the special editions), I would think you'd be insane NOT to consider encoding them onto another format, "because you can" (even without all the benefits I mentioned in my previous posts).

Wait, back up the transport for a sec here.

I do have a problem with the format, if that format is a God damn burned DVD. I DID say that in the first place.

If I had the money, I would happily buy both the DVD set and the LDs.

So you'd be happy to be Star-Wars-less (or maybe satisifed with VHS) for three more years, well have fun. ; )

I take it by your statement that you don't already have the TPM and AOTC dvd's that are out, and don't plan to buy Episode III (since it most surely will come out before the original trilogy does on DVD).

George seems dead set on releasing the films "in order" on DVD. I've already seen "Star Wars Saga" DVD packs, containing TPM and AOTC (since they're the only SW movies legally on DVD).

I have both TPM and AOTC on DVD. And I will buy Episode III whe it is released. And then I will buy either the OT set, or the OT+PT set, providing which one will be released and which has the best suplements.

I am a very patient individual. I can literally wait years for something to be released.

What is WRONG with having with a burned dvd? Tell me that.

I guess the question for you is irrelevant, because the Special Editions are fine, and so are any future "Archival Special Editions" that GL decides to make. You don't care about owning the originals in a digital format.

But if you would buy the LD's (of the originals) and the DVDs (the super duper modified editions) maybe you do care about getting a high quality digital version of the original movies after all?

Again, there are benefits to having it on DVD, and if you own them already what's the problem with copying them?

Here's the scenario:

-Some of us want the original films on DVD.

-GL has no plans to ever do that.

-LaserDisks are the next best thing, but harder to obtain and trickier to setup/mesh with an existing system that favors DVD.

-LD's can be encoded to DVD and watched on DVD players.

-This is a LEGAL alternative to buying bootlegged DVD's off the internet.

-DVDs are more convenient for today's home theater systems and portable devices than LDs.

Why would you want to own two copies of each of the prequel discs?

I smell paranoia.. ; )

I guess in a way, you're GL's ideal customer. You want exactly what he's going to give out (whatever it is), and you have no problem with what he's doing.

I would get rid of my older copies.

And I'm not a "perfect customer", I just buy what I think is reasonable.
