That is entirely irrelevant. There is only so much available energy per unit area from solar radiation. No matter how good the solar cells are they can not absorb more energy than is there.

Still, assuming that the TIE operates in an area with, say, Earth level solar radiation, which is ridiculously high, they would only be able to store minute amount of energy compared to its performance. If they are indeed solar panels, they would be for the emergency life support and comm system only...

I found that a 24x31 foot panel only generates 50 watts....gosh that is soo low.

Btw...the TIE Defender was developed just before the Battle of Endor and was being tested during the Battle somewhere else.

Wrong. The Defender was built, tested and put in servive before Endor. As per Tie Fighter.
