Re: [Research] Questions about the Sith
one of jacen solo's sith candidate names was taral. they modified it from a mundane object. And i honestly don't mind. If the world is evil enough and cool sounding it could work
Re: [Research] Questions about the Sith
for the record i think "darth Abbadon" would work well. abbadon means "destruction" in hebrew

There's Darth Krayt. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_KraytHavok wrote:I love the inability of EU writers to base the names on anything made up in a Sci-Fi fictional universe. Oh no, it has to be based on some evil meaning word.
Besides, in a universe that's generally lacking in grey shades, it's expected that the bad guys will lean towards being card carrying villains, as Tvtropes would put it.

Using Wiktionary I came up with the name "Darth Yeltecan" from the old English yfel tǣċan (meaning "evil teacher"). Yes it is a a rather stupid name, but I can't see how it's any worse then Dooku, and it's got to be better then the placeholder name, which was Darth Vector.
Re: [Research] Questions about the Sith
They all sound bad; perhaps you should go in another direction. Look up various words meaning 'Lord' and change the 'Darth' to that word and pick a better sounding name after 'Darth'. You can lead up to it, or you can toss in a couple changes from X to 'Darth' and 'Lord' in the dialogue to cement the transition to X.Krisnack wrote:Using Wiktionary I came up with the name "Darth Yeltecan" from the old English yfel tǣċan (meaning "evil teacher"). For example; I'm assuming the 'teacon' bit means teacher (yfel is too close to fel to not mean evil) so perhaps name the guy Deacon Smith (pick your own name). In one scene, refer to him as Deacon Smith with the apprentice deferring to him as 'Master' and 'Lord' Smith in the dialogue, and have Smith refer to himself as Darth Smith, your Lord and Teacher, back to the kid to cement the idea that 'Darth', 'Lord', 'Master', and 'Deacon' all mean roughly the same thing and are translated words into basic.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Well if we're including Krayt then I don't see why Talon isn't included with him, named as such because she was personally trained to be Krayt's Hand (Get it? Because Krayt is named after the Krayt Dragon and she's his Talon ) in aping of Palpatine's Emperor's Hands .Srelex wrote:There's Darth Krayt. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_KraytHavok wrote:I love the inability of EU writers to base the names on anything made up in a Sci-Fi fictional universe. That's a good idea, and I might be able to work it in. It's just that I have a scene where the apprentice has an opportunity to get his own Sith name, so the 'Darth = Master' idea might have have to go, as the teacher would not want his student to refer to himself as 'master'.Knife wrote:They all sound bad; perhaps you should go in another direction. I went back to wiktionary and I came up with Feleche or Felechen, with is better then Yeltecan, I think.

Assuming a Force Sensitive exists on the planet, the Sith in question can probably find them without too much trouble.
I always thought that was a self-limitation.

Take all the stuff Jedi and Sith are supposed to know and devise a lesson plan as if you were a teacher or a coach trying to teach those things.Krisnack wrote:...
He already knows who he wants for his apprentice (his future apprentice already has a rather big ego), the part where he approaches the person with the offer, and the training parts is what I'm having trouble writing.
Leraar is too weak. It has to be harsh, with an evil bite to it, like Darth Torke (just for an example; a play on 'torque', to apply twisting force). I think 'torke' was used as the name for a swordmaster/teacher in the Last Renshai series by Mickey Zucker Reichert; whether or not it is a real world word in a Nordic language I don't know for sure. Also, what would be a good name for the Sith lord? I tried running the word 'teacher' through Babelfish (using English to Dutch) and I god the word 'leraar' which I'm not very satisfied with.
