Re: Relative size of the Old Republic, Empire and NR starfle
Sometimes I don't think people actually read what I post. Did people forget (for example) that "truly intergalactic" warships didn't really exist in the Republic until the time of the Clone Wars (or some line about it in one of the Saxton-derived ICSes). You just had crappy ass pseudo-warships like the Separatists had, and that was even of dubious legality (Arming their ships only for self-defense as I recall.) Warships existed (KDY had quite a few, and some very large ones in fact) but they were far limited in range, which is naturally going to limit the scope of a conflict. If there were any "intergalactic" warships, they were small in number and in the hands of the central government (and may have been in the Judicials rather than the Navy). In either case (Republic of whatever era or the GE) they only have to achieve concentration of forces on a local level to win - access to the Holonet and hyperwave, control of hyperspace routes and access to the best/most effective navigational data and tools (and in some cases the fastest and longest-ranged hyperdrives) grants a huge equalizer that can offset limited numbers - barring some sort of large-scale simultaneous uprising (which would have been effectively impossible to contain by conventional forces no matter the numbers, else the Death Star wouldn't have been important.)

A nitpick here. The ICS compared the Accalamators range to the warships of Kuat and other sector navies and stated they lack such range.Connor MacLeod wrote:Sometimes I don't think people actually read what I post. Given the history of the Dreadnought cruiser, Invincible Battle-wagon and the deplorable Republic Cruiser, this may mean that warships containing firepower the scale of that found in the Kuati navy aren't long range.
The TF battleships underwent a upgrade before serving in the Clone Wars... again. You just had crappy ass pseudo-warships like the Separatists had, and that was even of dubious legality (Arming their ships only for self-defense as I recall.)
