*DGG checks his shield gauge* The shields are gone huh? Time to go out in a blaze of glory!

*DGG banks past squandrons of fighters futively trying to damage his craft, and being blown into atoms for it. His TIE Advanced X1 fires its dual laser into the bridge of his puny capital ship, wearing down its inferior shields quickly*

OK, that was weird.

I'm assuming that was a "no."

And I know, I can't help myself.

If game mechanics are legal, the Royal N-1 Starfighter owns all your asses. If not, then the T-65 X-wing and the Seinar Fleet Systems TIE Interceptor are tied (that's a rather bad pun), followed by the Koensayr BTL-S3 Y-wing fighter/bomber.

T-65 X-Wing if we're sticking to pure fighters. I've also been partial to the B-Wing.

X-Wing and the ordinary TIE. The classic images you associate with Star Wars.

Seems like plenty of people like the Defender, but what I want to know is, if you're going for uber-wank, why not go all the way and say the Missile Boat?
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

I'll have to go with either the X-wing or Y-wing. Both are pretty cool fighters, and I really don't see where the EU notion that Y-wings are slow came from.

But at any rate, I don't particularly like the Defender's design. It may have über weapons and shields, but that's about it.

Nothing else matters but weapons, shields, and speed. :)

TIE Defender all the way.

Weapons: The Missile Boat has only one laser cannon, and no ion cannons. It's missiles are good for stand off attacks, but when you're close in they're more of a hindrance than a help.

Speed: The Missile Boat is only faster if it uses its SLAMs. It's also less maneuverable.

Shields: I think the TIE Defender has stronger shields, though I can't be sure.

GrandAdmiralPrawn is a heretic. The TIE Defender looks awesome.

Damn, forgot that one.
"Supposedly" it carries enough torps to bring down a small Mon Cal cruiser...

EDIT: Then of course,, it's shield suck, speed is pretty bad, one laser cannon, no ion cannons....

I also forgot the TIE ground attack fighter. It was a cobbled-together vehicle based on a TIE Advanced X1 testbed and outfitted with four heavy laser cannons. The fighter was itself longer and far more "boxy" than an average TIE Interceptor. It also packs a far greater "punch." Unfortunately, it was a custom build and was destroyed during the defense of Cardia.

Well, given decent missiles (which SW has) and good speed (using SLAMs), boom and zoom tactics can work quite well :)

Chuck some missiles at the Defender then run before it can catch up.

No clue; the ROTJ ILM chart shows that the TIE Fighter, X-Wing and Y-Wing have similar acceleration and maneuverability.

When it comes to appearance, my favourite is the A-Wing. I don't know too many of these EU fighters.

Especially in concert with the starfighter-scale tractor beam. Hold the T/D down with the tractor, lob a few pairs of advanced missiles, watch it go boom.

That said, I still like the TIE Interceptor and the A-wing.
