He did Star Trek, right?

I didn't like most of the music from that movie very much, although there were a couple pieces that were quite good.

Ugh. Giacchino is the king of emotionally manipulative music. Star Wars doesn't need that stuff. We need an epic composer that can make epic music for epic battles to keep the epic feel of an epic series.

Howard Shore wouldn't be a bad choice.

I was going to suggest Alan Silvestri.

Recently, he's done Captain America as well as The Avengers. But most importantly, he did Back to The Future. If he can make Marty's skateboarding epic, he can do SW.

I strongly disliked Captain America's music. It seemed forced and... I dunno... off to me.

I think Patrick Doyle would be a great choice.

I've never heard of him. What movies has he scored?

Hamlet and Goblet of Fire come to mind for me.

Apparently he did Thor too. I Just listened to some of his stuff on Youtube and found it very interesting. I think he might be a good match for Star Wars. Honestly, I think Williams is getting too old to do music anymore. I just checked Wikipedia, and he's eighty one years old for christs sake. Let the man retire and spend some time with his grandchildren or something. He can still occasionally manage to produce a truly memorable piece of music, but not as much as he used to. From the PT, there's about one theme I regularly listen to per movie, compared with the OT where I'll still listen to any of the music on a regular basis.

Right now his most memorable themes seem to be ones with throwbacks to stuff he did earlier in his career. I think the same thing is happening to him that happened to Lucas. They just got old.

Hans Zimmer?
Seeing as John Williams just composed the soundtrack for Lincoln I see no reason why he still can't do it.

BUT if he can't then as other said the obvious choice is

Michael Giacchino

He works with JJ Abrams a lot AND he composed the music for the new version of STAR TOURS at Disney so he has already done Star Wars music before.
