Been a long time since I read the NJO, but wasn't the idea that the Vong were connected to the Force in a different way from every other known species? If I remember right, both Jacen and Anakin Solo could sense the Vong. Jacen through some funky animal thing (I think) and Anakin through his lightsaber crystal.
