Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
My initial thoughts are that this looks quite good, and has the 'lived in' feel of the original trilogy. I have the feeling it will be more personal than the prequels, which is good.
I can already see in my head people drawing comparisons between this and Star Trek Into Darkness. Don't know why but I can see it.

It was the lens flare during the Millennium Falcon's maneuver. I've read lots of comments elsewhere talking about how because JJ is directing, there will be a lens flare every 15 seconds. Personally I think they're idiots. Yes, JJ does seem to like lens flares but it's not THAT bad.I can already see in my head people drawing comparisons between this and Star Trek Into Darkness. Remember they wrapped up principle photography not too long ago and there's over a year until release; they're barely into post production. This is insanely early for a trailer; give it time.ray245 wrote:It looks like a fan film shot on a small budget rather than feeling like a 150 million dollar Sci Fi blockbuster. I wouldn't be surpriced if that trailer had all the finished effects shots they had at this point, well finished to the point they felt confident to show to the public.

The cinematography shown in the prequel trailers make them look really epic without that much spoiler as well. The scenes shown in this seems to be poorly rendered and shot.Gaidin wrote:That's mostly because someone finally released a teaser that didn't have spoilers in it...go figure.ray245 wrote:It looks like a fan film shot on a small budget rather than feeling like a 150 million dollar Sci Fi blockbuster. I don't think teasers in other films looks as bad as this. The shots we see in the teaser simply doesn't inspire confidence in me. I don't think things like shakey cam will be removed from the final product.Remember they wrapped up principle photography not too long ago and there's over a year until release; they're barely into post production. Yeah, I mean, I never even noticed the lens flares the first time I saw "Star Trek". It was only when I rewatched it already having heard people complain about it that I noticed. It's a fun thing to joke about, but anyone who is seriously bothered and distracted by it is probably just an asshole that is looking for a reason to complain.Borgholio wrote: It was the lens flare during the Millennium Falcon's maneuver. Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
How so? When I looked at it, I got the feeling it was almost shot live action. The level of detail (especially on the Falcon) was very good, the effects were not at all excessive, and the environments seemed to be fine (forest looked rather creepy, the lake looks like any one of a dozen I've fished in in the Sierras...).The scenes shown in this seems to be poorly rendered and shot.

I agree. The flares were a bit of an issue in ST09 but not in STID.Borgholio wrote:It was the lens flare during the Millennium Falcon's maneuver. A lot of the fan talk in IMDB is that JJ 'ruined' Star Trek, and that he'll ruin Star Wars too. I don't believe the former and I don't believe the latter either.

Why are people saying this looks badly shot? Looks fine to me. The shot of the Falcon was obviously a bit trippy but it looks majestic as fuck. Be happy. Life is good.

Why is everyone going on about how that funky new lightsaber looks "home made/from scratch?" Aren't they all supposed to be hand-made from scratch by individual force-users? Wasn't that supposed to be a Jedi right-of-passage or something?
Anyhoo, the new trailer looks awesome. Although I am now most irritated, because I saw it say "December 2015" and thought it meant a few day's time, not a damn year. Oh well.

Re: Star Wars VII - Trailer Discussion
It looks a little clunkier than the lightsabers of the first 6 films, and also appears...I dunno, angrier in a way. The way it snaps sharply on, and the blade looks more ragged and frayed than normal. I would say it's been thrown together a little amateurishly. Perhaps the art of lightsaber construction has been lost to time a little bit. It would fit with the whole "Force Awakens" theme. I mean, I know it's not been that long since the jedi were around, maybe 50-60 years at most since Order 66, but still.

I have problems with this teaser, but what you posted reads like a generic bitter fan rant from someone who decided the film would suck before it was ever made.

Love the look so far. Love the lightsaber, too -- no, it won't have the utility of a proper greatsword (which it otherwise evokes, to me), but it is no less stupid than the lightstaff and infinitely more palatable than the ludicrous light-tonfas.
I loved the original Star Wars, but this feels good, too. Above all, so far it doesn't feel like a tired rehash, which gives it a leg up on the prequel trilogy.

Things I dislike about the teaser:
-The gimmicky round droid.
-The look of that hovercraft the woman is riding.
-The fact that they seem to be reusing the Empire and Sith as villains rather than something new.
-The generic start of the teaser (which doesn't feel right).
Things I like:
-A hand guard on a light sabre.
-The fighters in atmospheres.
-The little changes to armour and vehicles.
-The music.
Edits: I wish the old stars had all been in the teaser. Also, its interesting to see a black guy in stormtrooper armour. Did he steal it or has the Empire finally started using non-white soldiers in the films? Well, I guess the clone troopers were brown, but did the Empire keep using them for long?

Has anyone ever thought for a second that the lens flare thing was added because they were always looking at fucking suns?

I'm really curious : Is this A : A droid running on a ball or B : The ball is part of the droid?

Re: Star Wars VII - Trailer Discussion
Looks like a small anti-grav / magnetic unit under the droid's head. So I think the ball is it's propulsion unit. This makes sense for a desert environment though, to have a single large wheel. Ever since I was a kid, I wondered, how R2 could drive through the thick sand on Tatooine without his wheels jamming up...
