I'll concede that much. But it'll be interesting to see the Grand Admiral we know and love before 'Heir to the Empire' and what made him what he is.Darth Fanboy wrote:We know how the second Hardcover will turn out though, seems to me like he is trying to squeeze everything he can out of that one character short of a movie or television series.JME2 wrote:Hey, it's his specialty. In other words, he's doing with Thrawn what Stackpole has been trying for years to do with Corran Horn. Only there's one difference: Thrawns a MUCH more interesting character, and learning about him is fun and interesting. Learning about Corran Horn is as exciting as watching a bocce ball tournament in Central Park. Moreover, Zahn consistently delivers quality writing, and has in the past. I think I owe him the benefit of the doubt.Darth Fanboy wrote:seems to me like he is trying to squeeze everything he can out of that one character short of a movie or television series.

I absolutely concur that Zahn's works have been of a much higher caliber than any other EU writer, especially Stackpole's wretched works. But i'd like to see him do something different. Hopefully something or someone else will emerge from his works so that Zahn doesn't have to rely on Thrawn for new stories.Master of Ossus wrote: In other words, he's doing with Thrawn what Stackpole has been trying for years to do with Corran Horn. Enough different authors had written for Borsk by this point that im sure itwas a fair outcome. Besides, if Denning didn't do it, im sure that someone else wouldhave, fans were clamoring for his death sinc eI can remember.[/quote]JME2 and his Mean Green Avatar wrote:
On the subject of Zahn, I can't help but wonder what his reaction was to Troy Denning in Star by Star killing off his Bothan creation, Borsk Fey'lya.

Well, to be fair to Michael Stackpole, not everything he's written is bad either. I quite enjoyed the first few, but it did get kind of old after a while.
I'll just pre-empt an inevitability here and point out that, yes, my screen name is indeed Rogue 9. But I'm not even referring to that. I'm an RPG fan, and pen-and-paper gamers owe Stackpole a lot for his thorough debunking of the anti-D&D movement in the early 90s. So, go Mike, down with Jack Chick, and we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

I'm not that interested in Zahn's works anymore, my main interest lies with whatever Stover and Denning might write, especially Denning since as Saxton told me, he probably knows more about actual physics than anyone else.
I'd also be interested in more novels from Allston.

Enough of the big war, Empire vs. NR, Sith vs. Jedi bullshit. Too much has changed to make that an effective route (besides, it would make the EU into Star Trek).
We've just had a gigantic war, with many worlds ruin and the Fleets decimated. Its the perfect climate for a Deus Ex type story: Secret organization begin to organize, intent on controlling the destiny of the GA (and this includes the Empire). After several terrorist actions by these groups, aimed at the GA and each other, a shadowy war is undertaken by GA intelligence and the Jedi to uncover these groups and the there actions. Along the way, some intelligence offices and Jedi begin to like the visions presented by the differing groups, and fractions in these two groups start to occur. Who will decide the future of the GA?
Make it a cloak and dagger battle over the future. The EU a break before it give it another huge war.

I shouldn't post first thing in the morning. That SHOULD read:
Give the EU a break before giving it another huge war.

Well then, you'll be happy to know that Stover is the offical author for the novelization of Episode III.His Divine Shadow wrote:I'm not that interested in Zahn's works anymore, my main interest lies with whatever Stover and Denning might write, especially Denning since as Saxton told me, he probably knows more about actual physics than anyone else.

That's why with the exception of Zahn's duology, there won't be new EU books until 2005.Arrow Mk84 wrote:Enough of the big war, Empire vs. NR, Sith vs. Jedi bullshit. Too much has changed to make that an effective route (besides, it would make the EU into Star Trek).

In any event, does anyone think that TZ should have written at least one NJO book, maybe the TUF (which is not to say that James Luceno did a bad job; it would simply have been interesting to see what the master-storyteller had up his sleeve. But obviosuly he couldn't because of the new Thrawn duology. Still, there's no harm in wondering).

Perhaps I should clarify: the YV as a galactic threat ARE DEAD. Any author who try to claim that they can still threaten anyone should be drawn and quartered.JME2 wrote:No, they're simply on Zonama Sekot which is now back in the UR. Should be interesting to see what Troy Denning does with them in his 2005 trilogy.Kuja wrote:The YV are dead. LEAVE THEM.

Frankly, I'd like to see authors branch out a bit more. Wasn't it Stackpole who said he was tired of the EU being "The Luke And Leia Show"? 'Course, he then went back and did another LALS himself...
I'd like to see smaller, more local stories, new characters, new places. I'd like to see, oh, a trader that ISN'T a dashing, roguish smuggler. I'd like to see a naive kid that ISN'T the most powerful Jedi since sliced bread. I'd like to see an uppity chick that DOESN'T become the most important political figure in the universe.
Frankly, I wish they'd write some stores about some of the missions that Winter did, back during the Rebellion. They only hinted at it, and I always found her to be an interesting character. For once, a strong female character that wasn't full of piss and vinegar!
