I have a plan.

Ship every EU source in existance to me, and give me a year or so to read it all. Then let me write the next NJO book, and I swear it will fucking rock. I'll reclaw the Imperials, let the worn-out OT characters fade(Ackbar, etc.), kill off Kyp Durron, and show Paellon applying the Imperial Smackdown in long, drawn-out, glorious fleet battles with thousands of warships.

Please. I don't ask too much.

I'm actually working on a NJO book right now. It violates almost every rule of SW EU on the planet (or, universe, depending on how you look at it). I hope it will be good enough to be published, but LucasBooks has a notoriously strange system of publication that appears not to reward people for writing good manuscripts. Oh well.

I believe it's something else, they where also talking about some implants that might be the reason for it, it could just be teleapthy and not the force.

Good luck. Keep us updated on the situation.

And if you get the job recommend Chuck Sonnenburg to them.

What's in a name, really?

Federal Galactic Republic doesn't sound to bad, and it's about time the government got overhauled.

A Fucking FEDERATION!
I guess you just glossed that section over, because that's not what the book says.

"I'm even thinking of names. Federal Galactic Republic. Galactic Federation of Free Alliances...Do you even think it's possible?" (Destiny's Way, pp 442)

The new government will likely be of a Federal Republic style. The word Federation may be in the name of the new government, maybe not.
No, I didn't gloss it over at all. I kept rereading it to try and understand the reasoning behind adopting a less centralized government when it has been repeatedly stressed that a more organized and stronger central authority (like the Empire) would have been much more effective. And in your quote right there it says calling it a Galactic Federation. My point still stands.

I re-read over the passage, and in it Cal Omas suggested the new Constitution would more clearly define the boundaries between the Senate and individual planets. This is a good thing, in my opinion, it may help to prevent greedy Senators from using the Republic as a way to benefit their respective planets/systems at the expense of the rest of the Galaxy. A "no Bothan" clause would also be nice. :D

Also, names can be deceiving and/or misleading. Look at the galaxy of Starcraft; it's original government was a Confederacy, which would suggest a very weak central government with each of the planets being superior within their domains, but it's clear that the planet of Tarsonis dominated the Confederacy and governed fairly harshly; its suppression of the rebellion on Korhal was on par with the Imperial destruction of Alderaan (well, maybe not quite on par, at least the Confederacy was 100% certain that Korhal was an armed planet engaged in rebellion, IIRC).

Ender, it says that it may be called a Galactic Federation. Maybe not. Cal was just throwing names around.

Cal also does not say whether or not his new 'Federal' style government will have less power, but simply that it will probably have an independant Judiciary and clearly-defined seperation of powers between the local and Federal goverments. Clearly, they aren't going for the whole centralized government way (the OR had it, it was heavily corrupt, the GE had it, was also corrupt though it had strength).

One could also note that the quote includes the concept of a Federal Galatic Republic. The United States is currently a Federal Republic and I don't think anyone would claim that we have a weak central government.

I'm sorry. I tried posting it, it never did anything, IE just kind froze so I exited. When I came back I found three copies of it and since we can't delete posts in this forum they stayed.

Which says nothing at all about where the primary source of laws governing the people of the nation come from. State Houses still genrate the most important day to day imacts on peoples' lives and this hasn't changed (though it has been modified much) since the founding of the Republic.
