Did they succeed? How much of a threat are they? Why aren't they in the other EU books? What happens to them?
Everything Lazy Raptor said plus, after the Ssi-Ruuvi were driven from Bakura the Rebels sent a fleet to their cluster and found that they had already been attacked by the Chiss (Grand Admiral Thrawn's species) and that the Ssi-Ruuvi were in a very bad shape.
Not too bad a shape actually. They reappear in the NJO series right at the very end, just long enough to nearly conquer Bakura...again, only to be thwarted by Leia, Han, and Co...again.

Slightly Off-topic, is "Truce at Bakura" a good read then? Does it have a big battle at the end or whatever? Why the hell were they trying to hit Bakura so hard? What was in it? Massive shipyards? Industrial moons? Capital ships full of defectors?

I liked Truce at Bakura. It was intriguing to see the Rebels and the Empire put their political differences aside to defend a planet. The battles were pretty intense, but what really made the plot interesting was all of the intrigue. The plight of a young human boy brainwashed by Ssi-Ruuvi and the sneaky backstabbing of a corrupt Imperial governor added some interesting elements to the story.

As for why they want Bakura so much, my only guess is that they want to boost their repulsorlift technology. High quality repulsors are Bakura's chief export and the Ssi-Ruuvi are light-years behind the Empire in terms of repulsor tech. It's so bad in fact that whenever one of their ships makes a sharp turn, they must strap themselves into restraining harnesses.

They were just expanding. And trying to start a exponential growth by "enteching" the population. However impressive the writing is for the fleet battles, it was still only a Carrack and escort carrier fighting.

They also had a plan to use Luke Skywalker to entech people en masse, and at long range. This would have been catastrophic.

It was very draining though. I doubt it would have been that useful.

I think the problem was on their end, and they were performing research on Skywalker in order to perfect the process.

The Alliance. They may be counter-revolutionary terrorists, but anybody with their luck is cool.

74+20+5= 99. Strange. I guess it's because the board won't allow decimals in polls.

I voted Rebel Alliance.

Now then, as for the Ssi-Ruuk. Either Wedge or General Salm threatened to assign Corran Horn to fly solo missions against Ssi-Ruuvi strongholds if he did something again. Insubordination and a really crazy stunt of some sort, I'll have to read the book again.

Wedge, with Salm right there. And they're not that tough, really. One ISD could get rid of quite a few of them.

Didn't the Rebels walk away from Bakura with the Ssi-Ruuvi flagship? I won't attempt to spell the original name but they renamed it the Sibwarra and planned to refit it by replacing the entechment system with a more conventional engine and replacing most of the ion cannons with turbolasers. It would have had to have been at least a decent ship for the Rebels to use it. But I haven't got that far into the X-Wing or NJO series. Does anyone know what happened to the ship?

Empire gets it for me, just on sheer 'wow' factor. Anyone that can build a moon-sized battlestation to take out a planet is pretty damn high on the Holy Crepes-o-meter.

The Sibwarra isn't mentioned in the X-Wing books, IIRC. Haven't read all of NJO so I don't know, and the Essential Guide to vehicles and Vessels says that everyone just calls it "Flutie".

The Alliance gets my vote. What other faction would've had the guts to fight the Death Star with such a small force? (The Imps argueably might, but since it'll never happen, we'll never know.)
"I want to mow down a bunch of motherfuckers with absurdly large weapons and relative impunity - preferably in and around a skyscraper. Then I want to fight a grim battle against the unlikely duo of the Terminator and Robocop. The last level should involve (but not be limited to) multiple robo-Hitlers and a gorillasaurus rex."--Uraniun235 on his ideal FPS game

"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant compared to the power of the Force."--Darth Vader

While the Empire is a murderous, genocidal, nasty orginization that rules with an iron fist, its better than the New Republic's, "Sorry we were stupid, ineffective twats and let the galaxy be overrun by murderous, genocidal, nasty aliens; but we meant well!"

Plus the Death Star. You cannot go wrong with a Death Star (unless you're Palpatine. He managed to screw it up at least once).

Isn't Mon Mothma one of the Dominator-type ships?

Yeah, they captured the ship. But the fact that a huge Ssi-Ruuvi attack was thwarted by a Carrack Cruiser and a fleet carrier doesn't impress me any.

As far as I know, the Mon Mothma is an ISD II equiped with gravity well projectors like the Interdictor Cruisers. Never heard of the Dominator, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more than one of these models.

How much refitting would the Mon Mothma have taken? IIRC it was stated that Interdiction Cruisers required a lot of power, a reason they where so poorly armed for a ship that size. So if you put the Grav Well Generators in an Imp Star Deuce what systems will the Deuce lose?

Probably removal of a crapload of weapons (like Booster Terrik's Errant Venture) and scaling down of shields and sensors. If they're operating with a fleet, sensors become less important, because co-ordinates can be transmitted to them on where to target the gravity well generators, and they can retreat back into the fleet during battle.

No, it's a new class of Star Destroyer-Interdicter. It's visually indistinguisable from an ISD II, while the Dominator had visible grav-projectors.
