This could be where Palpy and Vader get their Force Users from when the time of the purget comes. A small army of dissatisfied former Jedi.

I wonder how many Dark Jedi Palpy got under his control. I don't think that Vader killed ALL Jedi, that would be far to much work for one man. I heared, that he went into the sieged Jedi temple, and massacred everyone in it, but there are thousands of Jedi.
He must have had help of Dark Jedi, otherwise the purge is hard to explain.

Really? Just goes to show how far behind the 'NJO' really is to their originals.
Ulic Qel-Droma was stripped of his powers thousands of years before the Empire; it wasn't part of the NJO.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Err, that would be my point ... didn't I phrase it correctly?

Did you mean that Luke's Jedi were less "advanced" or something? That's what I thought you meant.

Or did you mean the NJO sucks?

Yes, it shows how much lost lore there is still yet to be discovered by the NJO.
Or did you mean the NJO sucks?
That goes without saying.

In those terms I agree with you - obviously, Luke isn't going to have the same knowledge nor experience as the Jedi masters of Old. Though he does bring some strengths to the table - he's fallen to the Darkside and was redeemed, not only that but he redeemed Vader as well. Those two insights would probably give the NJO a different type of strength which the Old Jedi probably lacked.

(consider KOTOR - the Jedi Masters couldn't redeem Revan, so they wiped his memory; arguably an immoral or ammoral decision - they could have executed him, or they could have simply imprisoned him. Contrast this with Luke redeeming Vader who ends up killing the emperor, Leia redeeming Luke which ends up doing funky shit in DE, Luke and Han redeeming Kyp - shit, there's a lot of redemption going on...)
That goes without saying.

IMO the purge could be accomplished without so many Dark Jedis. A combination of overwelming firepower and probably turning the people against the Jedi, outlawing them, imprisoning and executing them, could work too. If Palpy can trick them to do something that people would consider outrageous (or can be manipulated to think so), he can use this as an excuse for such an act.

And maybe the ranks of the Jedi order could have been decimated during the clone wars - their doctrine of training from infancy could have prevented the refilling in necesary time.

Hopefully Episode III will make some light into this matter.

The Jedi Knights only numbered in the tens of thousands.

Frankly, all Vader and Palpy needed to do was cast Force Sense: Jedi Imaidiot is at Fuckarewe planet and send in several million stormtroopers to swarm him under.

Considering the ratio of Republic forces to Jedi Knights, and the losses of the Clone Wars, it really isn't unreasonable for the Empire to have systematically hunted down Jedi followers. Only in the cases of Masters and Knights who had real combat training(as opposed to those losers at the arena) would had the presence of Vader and any other Dark Jedi been neccesary.
