Ah. Apparently I misunderstood, which would explain a lot of the recent context of the conversation...Darwin wrote:Are you guys reading a different thread?
Sounds like he believes it was a film editing gaffe. not a photoshop.seems to me like whoever did the edit didn't think someone would pause at the spot where he spliced in the explosion. i wouldn't delve into this too much
Either way, if it wasn't fixed in the SE version, it was probably meant to do that. (Though that doesn't explain Obi-wan's non-glowing lightstick in the Death Star duel)

Show him the ITW and the Edlund quote; it has been retconned.Rogue 9 wrote:Hmmmm. I just discovered to my detriment that at least one mod considers the sensor domes/shield generators debate closed as well, despite no FAQ announcement to that effect, and stomped me for pointing out that they're not shield generators.

No, he agrees with me as he made clear later by linking to the Technical Commentaries article on the matter. They just don't want debates to take over their board. Apparently debating in general is closed.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Show him the ITW and the Edlund quote; it has been retconned.Rogue 9 wrote:Hmmmm. I always heard that TIEs have no shields whatsoever and that they are so shortranged that they have no hyperdrive.

They have no hyperdrive. But look at that picture. That shot didn't hit the TIE's body, so what did it hit if not shields?King Grinch wrote:I always heard that TIEs have no shields whatsoever and that they are so shortranged that they have no hyperdrive.

While I can accept the Empire building some TIEs with shields, what I don't get about that scene is why the TIE blows up after?Rogue 9 wrote:They have no hyperdrive. But look at that picture. History? I love history! First, something happens, then, something else happens! It's so sequential!! Thank you first guy, for writing things down!

It was the hit by the second bolt (which you can see in the last frame)?Super-Gagme wrote:While I can accept the Empire building some TIEs with shields, what I don't get about that scene is why the TIE blows up after?
"Intelligent Design" Not Accepted by Most Scientists
Isn't it a better idea to try and get a screencap where a 'shielded' rebel fighter gets hit, there's a shield interaction, and no damage? Since both 'unshielded' TIEs and 'shielded' X-Wings both explode after one hit, where's the difference?
I buy the whole big explosion vs disintegration thing, btw; but the idea that TIEs are unshielded has no support in the movies that I'm aware of. They are seemingly either less shielded or more volatile in some way (like different power source or something).
