I thought that the r2 unit was there only for navigational assistance. If so an internal droid brain would be better.

Interesting. I recall from TPM, R2 droids doing something, probably repairs on the surface of the queens ship as it was flying through the blockade of Naboo.

Indeed. They repaired the shield generator. However they were unable to fix the hyperdrive, hencr the journey to Tatoone.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

1. Add two weapon hardpoints to either side of the fuselage. They can mount ion cannons or lasers.

2. Improve shields to B-Wing standards.

3. Add a missile rack like Slave-1. It will be able to launch the same multi megaton missiles like the Slave-1
Or you could dump that Rebel hunk-o-junk and get TIE Defender :P
Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.

Yet what he creates tends to be total shit. Example: Ode to Spot.
Purely subjective. Believe it or not, there are people who like that poem.
There are people who like to eat shit too. Those people are idiots.- Darth Servo and Bounty.

Also, if the X-wing is disabled and stuck in space, the R2 unit can climb out of its socket, use it's little jets (see R2-D2 on Geonosis) to fly around the X-wing in zero-grav, and start repairing.

Or I could use a Rebel hunk-o-junk to shoot down said TIE Defender. See the title.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!
