Well, the TIE series certainly weren't massive; just look at it that way. If the ARC 170 concept art bears any similarity to the actual "Clonefighter" we're going to see, that's certainly going to be sizeable.
Yeah, but the TIE series wasn't packing hyperdrives, shields, and missile launchers. They were basically engines with guns.
Forget the Tie Defender, did we?

or the A-wing (about the size of the TIEs with missiles, hyperdrive and (IIRC) shields.

Hey Vympel, what do you mean they're 'TIE panels'? They only have the TIE-like texture on the inside, and they look moveable (with the recessed bits on the main 'wing' structure below them). Do your sources have more information?

I like the design. I'm also happy they changed from the earlier D-7; it would be crazy if they fought the Clone Wars with that peacetime design. And it makes early rebel fighters look like shit, and that makes my day. :D

Rememeber this *is* a completely non-canon encylopedia entry; I bet when the ROTS ICS comes out we'll see at best it's equipped with deflector shields only.

No, but my pictures are far bigger, and they are definitely TIE panels. They're quite larger than they look in that pic, and give it a front-on profile very reminiscent of the TIE Interceptor and TIE/X1 Advanced. They do obviously flip in and out though.

Good, another convert :)

Personally, I don't see any huge difference between this fighter and say, Vader's TIE/X1- the TIE series is one of the ugliest fighter series ever, but they've grown on us.

Eh? Grown on us? The very first time I saw TIE Fighters and the X-1 in ANH, I loved them.

No, but they're 1.) rather rare and 2.) larger. The X1 had hyperdrive and shields, but it also had that massive extra engine section in the back.

They're not larger from where I'm sitting- the usable space is about the same.

True that, but of course, no-one says that this has hyperdrive. I'd be a nightmare to fit all that stuff in come ICS time.

They don't have the cannons in the cockpit anymore. There's some amount of space. Also, aren't the wing struts wider than a TIE's? I'll go check out some pics, see what's back there...

The Hasbro toy for the Delta-7 Aethersprite had the same feature. In fact, IIRC Pablo wrote in the Drop Box over at the OS that the new Jedi Fighter would feature something that wasn't shown in AOTC, so I guess this is it.

If it's genuine? You bet. Haven't you seen the pictures in the Star Wars Insider or on Hyperspace? There's been plenty of pics of the new starfighter, even the color schemes of the fighters has been explained.

BTW, I really like the design, even if it doesn't really look like an effective fighter. Perhaps they should have made it even more TIE-like?
