Death Star is Born

Am I bad person for feeling like the comic was funny up until they said the DS was 120km in diameter? Also "mid-hemispherical equitorial trench" is utterly, utterly wrong. It was one of the small, northern polar trenches, not the enormous equitorial one with the docking bays.
Overall, it was good, but my burning desire to have WEG stupidity ripped off the face of the galaxy clouded my enjoyment.

Yeah, but it still serves to keep these idiotic WEG precedents alive, and that makes the baby Jesus cry (or just makes me cry).Stofsk wrote:It is infinities-labeled, y'know.

They're scanned pages from an Infinities comic. I don't know that there were more by this artist, but there's a shitload of humor under the Infinities name... look up some of the TPBs sometime in your local big bookstore, you'll be richly rewardedCrossroads Inc. wrote:Do we know exactly who did this? whats his name? It was written by Kevin Rubio with art by Lucas Marangon. It was part of Dark Horse Comics' Infinities-label Star Wars Tales Issue 4, from July 2000.Crossroads Inc. wrote:Do we know exactly who did this? whats his name? Website? And if, dear god, he has MORE like htis? (hopes)
Me, I thought it was alright.

I found this comic in a bookshop, made a nice change from the ones around it in the book. Brilliant stuff

Despite it being an Infinites story, there were several elements of this story that is part of the EU lore.
1. Ackbar being Tarkin's slave (All over the place, including the Farlander Papers)
2. Bevel Lemelisk being the head engineer (Galaxy Guide 6)
3. Tol Sivron being one of the scientists involved (Jedi Academy Trilogy)
and surprisingly:
4. Tarkin having a daughter, Rivoche, whom by the time of Dark Empire is the wife of the Alliance / NR archivist Voren Na'al (Dark Empire Sourcebook)
Of course the whole thing has been upset by the fact that the Death Star was conceived at the top level, i.e. Palpatine, Dooku & the CIS leaders, and not something that Tarkin conceived and requested from Palpatine.

I still can't get over anyone actually, talking, to the Emperor like that!
I mean this guys is Sidious THE Evil nasty Lord of Evil and Ickyness AND Ruler of the known Galaxy. How does anyone have what amounts to a formal business meeting with the guy? For that matter, is there any documented evidence ((EU Books)) of the guy, you know, just chatting it up with someone?

I think it would've been funnier if vader had kept the one with the yogi bear cartoon and started snickering to himself as he watched it.

I think the previous panel would be quite a dead giveaway...Cal Wright wrote:That's awesome. Seems to catch plenty of spoofing, and seems resonable. Pretty damn good. The only thing, is the last panel with Vader. I know he would have handed the one with Yogi in it to Bevel, but what's with him keeping the DS one? Just to have something cool to look at?

It's fairly obvious from the previous pages that these two don't like each other.

A better parody from SW Tales is the one where MAce Windu and Yoda are eating in the diner ala-Pulp Fiction.
While were on this subject has anyone else read the SW Tales comic that Looks like it was drawn by the guy who draws PVP? "The Rebel Club"?

All of which ignored the SW comic strip which was written by Archie Goodwin and drawn by Al Williamson, which depicted the Mon Calamari waging a separate guerilla war with the Empire, lead by ADM Ackbar, without all this bullshit about ol Fish-head being a slave who learnt tactics by observing Tarkin (a guy who was so overconfident that he didn't take a simple precaution of momentary evacuation - he had nothing to lose, and he would have erred on the side of caution he had been right) , who moonlights as a starfighter designer when he should be busy planning strategy for the Fleet. Meanwhile these comic strips showed Ackbar to be an experienced and veteran fighter and leader, who the Rebel Alliance was desperately hoping to court in order to help in their fight against the Empire.Old Plympto wrote:Despite it being an Infinites story, there were several elements of this story that is part of the EU lore.

Sorry, this is a personal pet peeve of mine. The first ever experience of the SW EU I had was with those comics, and they told me Ackbar was a legend BEFORE he worked for the Alliance. Then I learnt later that the official history had him as a slave to the Empire who learnt tactics by looking over a bureaucrat's shoulders. (I suppose you could say Tarkin was a military governor... but a Fleet Admiral?) And when is he gonna get the time to work with the Verpine on Project Shantipole when he should be busy planning strikes and raids against Imperial forces?
Well with my rant out of the way, I guess I can more than sympathise with your perspective.McC wrote:Yeah, but it still serves to keep these idiotic WEG precedents alive, and that makes the baby Jesus cry (or just makes me cry).Stofsk wrote:It is infinities-labeled, y'know.
Thankfully, it is STILL infinities labeled.
Stofsk -- is there no way to integrate the two? Perhaps he was a legendary guerilla fighter and then captured and specifically learned military tactics from the inside from Tarkin. That way, we can preserve both storylines and make Ackbar even more badass.

Actually, I think this is quite realistic. It gives a depth to Palpy other than constantly meditating in his room on the Dark Side or saying shit like "Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen" or terrorizing his subordinates with lines like "Do you know what I do to subordinates who show too much initiative? I crush them."Crossroads Inc. wrote:I mean this guys is Sidious THE Evil nasty Lord of Evil and Ickyness AND Ruler of the known Galaxy.
