I was under the impression that Vader was in the condition where a medical droid would take one glance at him and say "You need to get him hooked up to some serious life support systems NOW or he's going to die". It's possible that unless you stuck that suit on him, he would have deteriorated to the point where he would have been completely non-functioning.

Seconded. Wha..? I looked at a picture I have from the OT and I don't see any lettering. (To be fair, I can't zoom in and get a clear decently clear picture anywhere.)
