You know, R2 astromech droids are apparently ubiquitous in the Star Wars galaxy, and there's a limited number of color combinations for them. What are the chances people who saw R2 in the prequels saw him again in the OT and just never realized it was the same droid?

This is a load of bullshit. You expect me to believe that Vader throughout the whole Original trilogy was secretly sparing R2 because there was a soft spot in his heart for the little droid. BULLSHIT.
I didn't say he spared R2 I said he made Sure R2 couldn't get to Luke because the droid is very good at getting the way of plans and R2 + Freezing Chamber = plan not work!
