Lightsaber question...Clone Wars based...

Dunno what the significance of this is, but lightsabers also cast shadows, suggesting there's at least some component of the blade that is absorptive to visible light. It also suggests that the light given off by the saber is extremely dim, despite its vivid appearance, and falls off very quickly (which is corroborated by the ESB duel, wherein the lightsabers do almost nothing to light up the environment).

YES, thank you Mike. I was trying to convey this idea earlier on this thread but I wasn't sure if I was getting it across... I just muddled it upDarth Wong wrote:Have we ever seen a lightsabre blade get shorter because it's blocked by something? Because given a finite power output, it is not possible for a lightsabre blade to move without resistance through matter unless it would experience a shortened penetration as a result of greater speed.
If you sweep a laser of known power across a piece of metal, the depth of the cut will depend on how quickly you sweep it. Since we have never observed lightsabres ever failing to extend to full length no matter what they touch but we have observed people slowing down their lightsabre movements when cutting through solid objects (most notably Qui-Gon in TPM), it's not unreasonable to surmise that there is some physical resistance to movement through solid objects in general.
I made the Qui-Gon vs. Blast Door observation at the end of this other thread too but no one replied
