It seemed to me that TPM said that midichlorians are the things that communicate with the Force. Therefore, while all life has it and it does not make everyone a jedi, it is nonetheless a prerequisite to force sensitivity. That is my theory based on the movie.CmdrWilkens wrote:The relationship between midichlorians and the Force is so debateable that it would be hard to rule out anyone becoming a Jedi on those grounds alone.neoolong wrote:4-LOM also wanted to become a jedi. Though a droid jedi is weird considering what was said in TPM. Midichlorians, while they don't cause the force, are necessary for people to be force sensitive right? But they are in living matter, not droids, so it wouldn't be possible for a straight droid to be a jedi.Evil Sadistic Bastard wrote:How's this for weird - a ROBOT Jedi? The Force appears to grant combat ABILITIES, but combat is not the goal of the Jedi. Jocasta Nu, for example, is clearly not a combat-oriented Jedi.Mr. Mister wrote:Master of Ossus, you're quite right. Not to mention, the Jedi-as-Warriors thing, well, I'd say that's almost a brain-bug (which unfortunately has affect Lucas). Going by the two Jedi we see in ANH, TESB, and ROTJ, combat skills are about as important a concern for Jedi as fluency in Thai is for a paramedic in New York City. Yeah, it can be really useful, but it's not a job requirement, and it's almost irrelevant.
Personally, as soon as I stopped laughing when Yoda took on Dooku, I felt like vomiting, as I realized that it was one of the most severe mischaracterizations I'd ever seen. And by the character's creator, no less.
I just have difficulty accepting that Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda from these two movies are the same Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda from the other 3. They're so... different.
Incidentally, is your name a reference to Major Major Major Major?

While fighting is to be avoided and some Jedi don't have much skill in that direction: They're called Jedi Knights for a reason. They're too act as peacekeepers and have the skills in most cases to back it up. The vast majority of the Jedi are training to act as warrior-statesmen.Mr. Mister wrote:Master of Ossus, you're quite right. And lets not forget that one of the important badges of a Jedi is the lightsaber. Hardly the mark of an organization of pacifits.
I don't think they are so different. Circumstance have certianly changed them. Twenty some years and seeing everything you knew, strove for and loved come crashing down with yourself to blame will change anyone. We're seeing them as young characters, they're far removed from the people they were. After such and upheaval I can see how they'd change.Mr. Mister wrote:Personally, as soon as I stopped laughing when Yoda took on Dooku, I felt like vomiting, as I realized that it was one of the most severe mischaracterizations I'd ever seen. And Obi-wan seems a lot like he should. There are hints in ANH and the rest of the OT that he was a lot more cocky and less contemplative in his youth than he was in the OT. And he sounds a lot like Qui-gon did.

I don't think Yoda was out of his element in the second movie; he was a Jedi of the warrior caste (God, sounds Minbari) and trained Luke in combat as well as mental techniques. He was clearly tired and struggling by the time the combat was over, and he had to drop everything to save Obi-Wan and Anakin...
I got a clear line of character development from each of the characters; I even did a double take at the line Obi-Wan says in AotC at the beginning of the movei: "You'l be the death of me someday, Anakin." "Don't talk like that, Master."
And in TPM, I got the impression that midichlorians are a result of having the force-- they are attracted to a person who has strong force ability, not the cause of it.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Erg...making them asexual was a dumb move. Before that, we had male and female Hutts. Now they say one side is dominant. Yeah.Typhonis 1 wrote:Could Jabba have been pregnant?Hutts are Asexual and the blking upp could do with one growing a child

He was trained as a Jedi Knight during the OR, helped Dyzm trying to take over the galaxy, and tried to control Leia. She chopped him up. I guess that makes him one of the bad guys.Zaku-chan wrote:Was Beldorian a good guy or a bad guy?
I've seen all this about him being a Jedi, but I also heard he started a duel with Leia. Whose side was he on?

Why, the male or female Hutts. One is male and one is female at different life-cycle phases, yet the Hutts are technically asexual-- so it came down one of them being dominant and one being submissive.Zaku-chan wrote:???Coyote wrote:So which side would say "Yes Dear" and take out-- er-- eat the garbage? What are you talking about?
Hence, the "Yes, Dear" question.

Figures. I'd like to see a Hutt on the good guy's side.nightmare wrote:He was trained as a Jedi Knight during the OR, helped Dyzm trying to take over the galaxy, and tried to control Leia. She chopped him up. I guess that makes him one of the bad guys.
