That's a really good point. It's easy to characterize the Jedi as being dogmatic and rigid. As Stravo mentioned awhile back, the Jedi Council seems to be an old boys club. But, this old boys club has existed for thousands of years, and the rules are there so that Jedi do not stray from the light and succumb to the temptation of the Dark Side. As Carth said, the Dark Side isn't just about doing evil things, at least not for Jedi. Lightside Jedi have to be always aware, careful not to be drawn into the traps the Dark Side presents. Passionate love is one of those traps, because when the time comes for you to let go of your love, someone can use your passion to override your conscience and manipulate you to their ends. The Dark Side seems to blur relationships and allegiances. Obi-Wan and Anakin were partners and each saved each other's life many times over, but when Anakin turned it was as if he had forgotten that all, as if he had been "consumed by Darth Vader" as Yoda put it.

Plus, all those wrinkles = better traction for harnesses and such. I can see why some of the more imaginative groupies would want to "ride the lightning."
