Allright, I can actually buy this. Above mentioned curses still sound about as fake as the rest of Stackpole's dialogue, but your reasoning is sound.Noble Ire wrote: *Puts on SoD hat*
Actually, this makes at least some sense. As far as most of the Empire knew, the only Sith in existance was Darth Vader, and he was made out to be a boogieman. As seen in Truce at Bakura and RotS, almost no one knew that Palpatine had any ties with the Sith, or that he could even use the force. To most Imperial citizens, the Sith were evils of the past, villans in ancient legends and the perpatrators of the Clone Wars. Yes, the Jedi were also painted as evil, but that does not mean that the Sith were good to them. I would imagine force-users off all types were painted as evil and devious by Palpatine, both to help in the Purge, and to give his force-endowed agents more of a sinister mistique (this also increased the perception of Palpatine's power and good intentions. "Look, he can control Darth Vader. What a great and powerful man.")

Notice, though, that most of the characters who use such curses are either Jedi themselves, related to Jedi, or have close connections to Jedi (like Kyle Katarn, Corran Horn, and Wedge Antilles). It makes sense that they'd see Sith as bad.Eleas wrote:I will never, ever, in a million years understand what Stackpole was smoking when he decided that "Sith" would be a negative term to the public in an empire where the Jedi were painted as boogiemen, and lambasted as such by a propaganda machine effective enough to nearly wipe out their memory in a mere generation.
Then again, Stackpole is severely overrated.
Not to excuse Stackpole's abysmal dialog or anything.

IIRC Sithspawn is used in the Medstar dualogy by characters that little to no connection to the Jedi.

I'm not sure if it's supported anywhere, but KotOR describes Bantha fodder as "...a highly pungent mixture of local plants and fungus. Banthas apparently find it irresistible, though it's doubtful any intelligent species would willingly call it food." In view of that, I think the idea that it could be used as an insult makes a bit more sense.Grandmaster Jogurt wrote:Isn't poodoo translated as "fodder" in the subtitles? That at least has some negative connotations, so it makes a bit more sense as an insult or swear than simply "food".

The Moff in Hand of Thrawn uses "Vader take the man" as an apparent curse.

These are admittedly from the NJO game sourcebook, but I believe they were taken from the early novels. Both are Vong:

yadag dakl, ignot - translation unknown, but considered "a venomous curse"

Schutta is Ryl (the Twi'lek language). Its a swear word meaning a being of ill repute. It was derived from the name of a weasel-like creature native to Ryloth.Civil War Man wrote:From KOTOR 2: Schutta
From what I gather, it basically means bastard and/or bitch.
Frotz is another twi'lek swear word (probably like fuck).
In Ryl, "Wedge'antilles" is akin to "one who is so foul that he could make a rancor vomit." (Wedgan'tilles is the accepted Twi'leki interpretation of Wedge Antilles' name. In this form, it translates to "slayer of stars")
And now all that is in the CUSWE would be here.
I used to think that it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe. ~Marcus Cole, Babylon 5
