That wasn't a power pack, it was clearly a magazine of grenades. It fit directly into the grenade launcher, and immediately after attaching it to the weapon, he pumps the launcher to chamber a grenade.

Note that while the ARCs fire on Grievous, that trooper fires multiple grenades, working the pump action between each shot.. demonstrating that it does indeed have a multi-round magazine.

I meant the glowing cylinder-like thingy he put directly into his DC-15. After he flips it closed, the gun says it's charged up.

Ah, okay, I see what you're referring to. However, that red object wasn't really that big :?
No larger (perhaps smaller) than the DC-17m power packs seen in Republic Commando, or the ones visible protruding from other blaster rifles like the E-11.

It's strange that he inserts it into a location that is anologous to a firearm's breech, considering we know that most blasters have power packs that do not glow red and fit into a magazine well on the side of the blaster. We've heard about gases (including Tibanna) being used as an excitant or even a component of the blaster bolts themselves. Perhaps that was a cartridge containing gas of some sort?

Those always struck me as having a bit more "bang for your buck" than the average blaster. And it didn't look nearly as big as the DC-15 one in my opinion.

Perhaps, but that would make it a bit odd, considering there's no example of something like that anywhere else in SW.

Maybe it's just a really big power cell so they don't have to worry about reloading for awhile. And considering the Clone's training, they're not going to be wasting shots.

Actually, blasters were allways described as having a supply of gas inside. For example, the E-11 is said to have 100 standard shots in its power pack, with enough gas for 500 shots within the weapon.

Power packs are often clearly visible protruding from blasters, but we've never seen the gas reservoirs being changed.

Again, I call attention to the peculiarity of the red object being inserted into the inside of the weapon's "breech", as opposed to attaching to an external "magazine well". Why would a power pack be put in such a difficult to access location (requiring the weapon to be hinged open), when it can be placed into a port on the external, as with all other combat blaster designs we've seen?

This just might be one of the gas reservoirs we've heard about.
Adding to this probability is the fact that we're seeing it being inserted into the weapon before the troopers enter a combat situation, and it's in a somewhat more difficult to access place compared to a power pack which would need more frequent changing.

Not that it's relevant , but the power pack and that red object really don't seem to differ much in size relative to the clones' hands.

Huh. I could have sworn that it was much bigger than that. My mistake then.

Still, I am curious as to where they put the power cell, then, but that's for another thread.
