Yes, the notation is four times (ten to the power of twenty one). As Knife says, 4 with 21 zeroes after it.

To elaborate, Stark probably meant 4E21 TJ per shot, and as stated before 1 TT per shot is conservative but, given the 1E24W reactor output figure, not quite as conservative as I thought.
For 1E24W, a 2 second refire rate and 32 guns per broadside, I get about 12 TT. Is that about correct?

The true 'power' of ion cannons come with the ionization effect on electronics, kind of like an EMP, although the bolt does actually give damage to the target outside of the effect.

Ion cannons come in all sizes as well, like the TL's, from the big suckers on Impstar II's to the Y-wings tiny ones.

If you're truely serious about the math, just clickt he big ass SDN banner sitting at the top of your screen. The site attached to here is chalked full of the info you seek and the math.
