Right, I had to edit my post because obviously the origin of the Dark Trooper was as a droid+powered armor concept.
The Phase 1 was all droid, and I assumed phase 2 was droid inside shell, but obviously phase 3 was a man in a shell.
All the other appearances of the Dark Trooper appear to be a human inside powered shell (though in Battlefront they just appear to be regular stormies with jetpacks and bigger guns and their armor painted gray).
So classing "Dark Troopers" as battledroids is problematic, yes.
So what happened to all the battledroids when the Empire took them over? Melted down to build the Death Stars?
Episode 3 questions.

fun/fantasy movies existed before the overrated Star Wars came out. What made it seem 'less dark' was the sheer goofy aspect of it: two robots modeled on Laurel & Hardy, and a smartass outlaw with bigfoot co-pilot and their hotrod pizza-shaped ship, and they were sucked aboard a giant Disco Ball. -adw1
Someone asked me yesterday if Dracula met Saruman and there was a fight, who would win. I just looked at this man. What an idiotic thing to say. I mean really, it was half-witted. - Christopher Lee
